I'm really trying to decide what oil to use in my new D-Max after I break it in on dino oil. What are you guys using? Do you switch between 15-40 and something else for the winter? I've had great luck with Amsoil in motorcycles and gas engines, but I've never used them in a diesel.

Ah there's got to be something good to say about it, right?!

I'm really leaning towards using it, so I'd like some advice if anybody has had issues with either the 5-30 HDD or the 15-40 AME. Thanks.

75% of all my diesel pichup customers run the HDD 5W-30. Being in MT it would be a good choice for winter. If you don't want to run 30W in the summer then switch to the 15W-40.

I added a Harvard bypass filter to my Dmax when it had just a few hundred miles. I had taken this filter off of my trade in 454, which had Amsoil for the last few years, and I didn't change the element. It had been run on propane, and the oil was clean as a pin. So I have 5 qts of Amsoil with 10 qts of factory oil. I am also running supplemental propane on the Dmax, and the oil is staying really clean. All add oil will be Amsoil, but I am using the 10W-30 because I already had it. I will do oil analysis occasionally and let them tell me if I need to change the oil, otherwise I'll only change the factory filter every 10K and not change the oil. I only have 5500 miles on this truck so far, and can't believe that the oil level has not dropped at all on the stick. I never had a motor that didn't use some oil.

If youare using Amsoil 10W-30 I would change it out because its not rated for diesel use.

I'm using Amsoil (bought from greg) and haven't had any problems. I use the 15-40, though. Install a fumoto valve with first oil change and you'll like the future oil changes better, no matter what oil you use.
