I got this code this morning. I read itwith a scanner I just bought. Injection pump metering control is what it says with that code from the scanner

How serious? The book I have say pump cam. could it be the optical just hiccupped?

Possible. This is the second time and it's from letting go of the key to quickly while starting. It starts quick but my finger slipped of the key.
I cleared it anyways and will keep an eye open.

Could be loose timing chain, where increased backlash causes code when engine is about to start, and the key is released - engine rotates backward briefly, causing Crank Position Sensor and Optical Sensor output to give conflicting timing indication.

How do you check the chain? I know how on the gas motor, just watch the rotor while moving the crank snout but no distributor on my diesel.

Remove the waterpump, where you can see the pump driven-gear, do the same routine.


Pump drive is 1:1 camshaft.
