Last drove my truck two weeks ago and it started and ran fine. I have finally got the time to do some work on it and diagnose the warm no start problem and now it won't start at all. Lift pump is working and no air in system. Turned over and gave a little shudder like it was going to start and now nothing not even a wisp of smoke so I think my pump has finally just said f### you and went out to pasture. Any ideas on what to look at next. Gone through the checklist.

I would do the dianogstic check list then post results of that. I am having a simular problem with my truck. You are welcome to look at my thread "new head still having problems" Once you post the results from the checklist there is a lot of people that can help you. I could be a number of things such as the PMD, corroded battery connections or a bad ground.

Your truck has a mech inj system - post the DB2-xxx-xxx number off the Inj Pump - model # plate down on driver's-side body - also post the color of that plate, and mileage on your truck, and any maintenance history - IP, injectors, etc.

The pump has given me grief before when it would not start when hot. Puor cold water on pump to cool and away it goes. Was told by local shop that the pump head can jam when it gets hot especially with lots of miles ( mine has 318,000 kms). I have a prime pump on the racor filter and can pressure the system a bit so no air in line. The batteries are matched and in good shape. The engine turned over well. Lift pump is working. The pump is mechanical yes and the numbers are DB2831 4911 J . I have pulled the pump and now cant get one till places open on Monday due to the holiday weekend. I hope one of them is open Monday. Any tips on the installation I should know about? No mods or major repairs to either the pump or inj. Transmission is only major thing so far.

The black label IP's have the hot-start problem, requires a new distributor head and rotor assy, so you're well on the way to the fix.
At 310kms the advance piston bore and camring bore can be worn oversize, so may need a new housing - new one may have red label.
If you remember how everything came apart, should be no problems going back in - firing order is 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3, #1 has the timing sensor extension, cw rotation looking at the distributor.

Thanks gmctd I am going for a rebuilt pump and that should cure all the things you mentioned. BD Power is not far from me and they have rebuilt exchange pumps for about 750. Yes I do hope I can remember how it all goes back in but it is fairly straight forward. Never had one of these out before so it is an education. Are there any additives recommended for new pumps??

None - just the usual power service Diesel fuel additive, with two-stroke motor oil for added lubricity, 8oz of each per full tank.

Thanks for that I'll give it a try.

Well the pump is changed. Still won't start. I pumped up the system from the racor and still nothing. There is no sound coming from the lift pump so I will check that but I can get pressure to the stock filter but no fuel to #1 injector when turned over. Thoughts???

Remove most of the glow plugs to reduce load on the starter motor - loosen #1 injector fitting 1/2 turn, crank until fuel comes out with no bubbles, tighten, do several more, then try a start.
Lift pump runs only in START, and RUN when oil pressure comes up, if the OPS is good

Got the old girl running. Turned it over while using the prime pump on the Racor filter to push the fuel. Lift pump is working and it runs good even starts when hot now! A big thank you to gmctd for all your input it was much appreciated.
