I have an 04 2500HD with Duramax and Allison. I noticed two "dings" on the external sides of the bed box (one on driver and one on passenger side). I have had no accidents or mishaps that would have put a ding in each side of the bed, and did notice that alot of the HD trucks have dings in about the same location as mine. Does anybody know if there is an explanation for these mysterious dings, or am I just over reacting and should seek ding paranoia counseling?

Could you narrow it down further? Please give approx. loc. in inches [from X], and I will take a look at mine too.
Or are these dings that obvious?
Thanks.

How about a pic showing the ding or the area to look at.
I haven't noticed any on my trucks but the last 03 had the bottom left front bedside welded 1/2" out board.
Must have been a Monday truck.
The paint was chipped off the bottom corner, had to put a straight edge on body to really see it.
I guess an off gauge welding job.
It could have been something in the die when they stamped them but we usually catch them and salvage the panels.

Mine has quite a few "dimples" in it. Truck was bought new. No marks on the paint. All appear to be on the box. None on the cab (that weren't self induced)
The dings are very obvious (I can see them in the driver and passenger mirrors when I am driving). They are both about 18 inches back from the front of the bed and about 8 inches down from the top of the bed. As I observe with detail, I notice that atleast 1/3 of all the 2500HD trucks I see have them (both short and long beds). Although its near impossible to see on moving vehicles, any ones that are parked I make a point to look close at the bed.

Just went out and checked my truck I didn't notice any dings. Guess I have a 2/3 rds truck.

My truck had two dings on the ds bedside when I went to pick it up. The dealership's paintless dent repairman popped them out straight in about 20 minutes.

I recall a friend having such on his ranger. Turned out, it was his belt buckle that cause it when lifting something out. The metal is thin on these newer truck.

I have a crease in the top of my bed, where the previous owner obviously tightened a toolbox down too far or dropped something on the toolbox, its only on the left rear corner of where a toolbox sits.
