I changed the lube in my front axle today, the oil that drained out looked like chocolate milk, and the drain plug magnet had A big gob of crap on it, is this normal for only having 6500 miles on the truck?
When I changed the rear after 500 miles of towing my 5th wheel, it was black but the magnet was clean. Edited by: John R

I changed mine with only 4500 miles and the same thing, a big glob on the magnet. My oil came out with a more yellowish tint than brown.

Changed the front at 3000 and same thing. The oil was a mustard yellow color and there was gunk on the plug. What came out from the factory was a pint low.
The rear was changed at 3000. it was black and there was a lot of fine silvery particles. Make sure you used a synthetic in the rear actually GM states to use only their proprietary axle oil or one that meets their spec... No one meets there spec. Oh wellhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif.

In the rear I used the GM grape juice, and in the front I used valvoline 80/90 synthetic blend.
I think I'll change both again in the spring.
