I just got a 95 gmc 1 ton van with the 6.5 non turbo with 138.000 miles.It runs out great down the road although it does not put you back in the seat it seams fine I dont have anything to comapare itt to since this is my first.
this van is for work and all I do is haul my tools around but I will pull a 20' boat around about 6 times ayear for an 8 hr ride or so.gas milage and longevity are my first prioritys and towing 3rd.

first off what are the problems with this motor I should watch for or fix first.Ive read about relocating the pmd module with a heat sink is this on the non turbo s too ?? what about overheating ?? aftermarket tranny cooler??? aftermarket oil filtration unit??? not sure where to go from here.

next what would be some performance upgrades without going to a turbo? I know most would say thats the first thing but I dont need massive power and I dont want the extra cost,heat,complexity,longevity issues.I thought about a 4" exhaust (muffler or no muffler?) and a fresh air intake if I can find one for the van body? thats about all I know but I'm sure theres more I can do??

so any help and direction would be greatly appreciated.

most all the talk in those stickys are about turbos I'm not sure how they relate to the non turbo?? and what things you need to do and what things are needed if you want to? mike
