I need some opinions on a 03 Dmax ext cab short box 108k for $16900. It was in a flood but water never made it past the frame and into the cab or motor. Personally I think the price is to high but want to know what everybody else thinks. What kind of problems would I be into seeing as the water never entered the cab or engine compartment. Also what is the injector warrenty on the 03s. Thanks for the help.

If it has a salvage title I don't think the injectors will be covered at all. A salvage title usually voids all manufacturers warranties.

i bought my truck for 21,500 with 99,500 miles on it, crew 4wheel drive LT. So i would say that price sounds good if its an LT trim and 4x4, but high if its an LS or isnt a 4x4.

If it doesnt have a slavage title your injectors will be warrentied to 200,000 with a 100 dollar deductible.

It does have a salvage title as a flood victim. I think the price is high for a salvage title and all the unknowns with the truck. It is not an lt is an ls, but it is a 4X4 auto

I think the price is too high. If you really want it, go ahead though.

I dont think I will be buying it if they stay at that price. But is there really that much to worry about since the water never went past the frame.

Im with you on too high. I may offer 10k and then make him think he squeezed you for the sale at 12k.
I know that sounds LOW; but, it's a flood, i mean it's a gamble whether you want to hear it or not.
It could have something stupid wrong with it that won't show up for a while (if water seeped in the trans/transfer case; or all the ABS sensors are rusted) you're prepared.

I dunno, it scares me. I was always told it was Salvaged for a good reason, insurance companies pinch pennies, if they're willing to lose money and salvage it I dont think I'd want behind the wheel or the repair bills.
I would also check w/ my insurance company to see if they even will insure a salvaged vehicle.

Yeah I am very leary of it but think it might be worth looking into. I think I will take it to the father in law and have him check it out. He is a highly respected diesel mechanic and I am a little behind him with the know how. But these are the answers I am looking for, keep'em comin. Thanks

Should I see if they will give me a warranty with it?

I agree with Jason. Offer em 10k and see what they say. You really are going to be on your own as far as anything going wrong. If you buy it right it won't hurt as bad if you do have trouble down the road. On the other hand I had my 05 in water up to the frame more than a couple times (I live in South Florida and the hurricanes of the last few years have produced alot of water)
and never had any water generated problems. Good luck whatever you do.

Having the injectors covered is what really worries me.

You'd have a private party hold on a warranty on it? I would have them put it in writing and have their firstborn child.. LOL.
It would get seriously fishy if something did happen; and then you'd have to hold them to their warranty. If they say go jump a cliff the court costs to get it done may outweigh the cost of replacing the injectors.

GMC will not warranty that truck. Once salvaged the vehicle no longer exists according to GM.

A dealership has it believe it or not. And I dont think they know what they have on there hands. So I was going to see if they would give me a warranty otherwise I think I might tell them to shove it

I used to work at a small bodyshop where we bought wrecks, restored them and sold them. I talked my boss into buying floods for the easier money. We only bought fresh water floods, we went through all the fluids and we did a quick inspection on the interior before bidding. Like mentioned above you usually lose the warranty with a salvage title. The only manufacturer that i have seen honor a salvage title was Honda and i think we got lucky that time. Are you buying from a private seller? If so then you may get a clear title. I would offer them $10-$12k but not any higher, plan on replacing the front wheel bearings, you will have to go through all the harnesses and clean/grease the connections, I would change all fluids anyway and i would undercoat the bottom side to slow down the rust. Drive it a few years and trade it in or sell it. As far as injectors go check with GM for the service history, they may have been changed already. Good luck!

Oops, didnt see your last post, does the dealer own the truck or is a private seller have it on their lot. Some dealers will allow that here for freinds but offer no warranty with it.

With a branded title its not going to be worth jack on trade. My wife has been in insurance for 17 years and they don't total a truck for water thats not in the cab. Its go to generally reach 75% or more of its value in damage. On a side note, I worked for a dealer that bought and rebuilt salvage vehicles, and that trucks seen more water or damage than they are telling you. I would stay away, but if you do buy it my general rule is no more than pay no more than 60% of its book value repaired branded title vehicles. Also be prepared to drive it into the ground, because most dealerships will not take it on trade.

It seems insurance companys are scared of water. I put my 05 on its side in October in a wash. I knew exactly how far the water got to and so i bought it from the insurance company and done the repairs myself. Ran into a few problems but otherwise will made out.

Electrical repair parts and such - $1,600

Body parts - $1,400

I had a body shop finsh the body work and paint for $1,600

The biggest problem I see is trying trying to trade it later or resell this truck.
As well the price is too high.
