: Goodyears with tumors!!!
klvn8r 09-17-2004, 02:39 PM Hey guys, I probably need to check my paperwork on this, but today I got to the fire station and noticed that my crew cab dually has this HUUGE goose egg/tumor on the sidewall. I just got back from a 5600 mile roundtrip of the northwest two weeks ago, but this showed up today. My truck has 32,000 miles on it, and I've rotated the six tires twice already without any issues. Is this a 'typical' Goodyear deal, are they warranteed or am I just S.O.L.? Any info would be GREATLY appreciated. BTW--there is no other issues, road hazzard, pothole etc, it just showed up....
Well mine did it with the Generals at about 2400 miles. Never have been too impressed with General, but all the manufacturers give the new car builders cheapy tires.
Goodyear should adjust the tire for you, they'll charge you for the wear by measuring the remaining tread depth. Depending on the dealer, you may or may not have to pay the mount, balance, and disposal fee.
Hey, I just re-read this and it looks like another Firefighter type here on the forum...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
There's quite a few of us roaming around here, welcome aboard...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gifEdited by: Zeeb
2MuchFun 09-20-2004, 04:26 AM I used to work for Goodyear years ago and thought they were the best. But, in the last 3 years I've had Bad experiences with them Twice in a row (impossible balance. one set proven to be out of round) and now Im strictly a BFG guy :) Edited by: 2MuchFun
mpdlt 09-20-2004, 09:33 PM On my first and last set of goodyears I got the goose eggs and even had a blow out. The goodyear stealer tried to tell me I ran the tires under inflated, which was BS! Their offer was new tire for $45.00 bucks.
The following year, the goodyear company took out whole page adds appologizing for building crappy tires.
That set of 4 wrangler at/s had 11 patches when I took them off, bald as a baby's butt at 17k miles!
First, last and only time my vehicle(s) will have goodyears!
(End Rant!)

marcdeluca 09-20-2004, 09:48 PM If you want some good Goodyear tires, get the G647RSA. They are a commercial steel sidewall tire that you won't have trouble with. They will cost you around $200 apiece after mount & balance, but they are well worth it. You will probably have to go to a truck tire store, they are not listed in the pickup/SUV book. Micheline makes a comparable tire called the XPS, Bridgestone has the R250. They are all used on FedEx and UPS trucks. I had some G159s on my truck I traded, they had 63K on them and were less than half worn out. (G159 is discontinued)
klvn8r 09-20-2004, 10:51 PM Yeah, I was looking to gripe about it..... I did stop by my local "Discount Tire Store" and asked if they did 'warranty' stuff for Goodyear, etc. As typical, the guy there said, "that's an 'impact' mark, you hit something." Then proceeded to try to show me a tiny scratch on the trim ring... as if that is "evidence" of my "abuse". http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wacko.gif I drove to work 55 miles one-way, and don't think I hit anything, nor can I find any "bruise" that should be seen had I hit something. I say this is probably a manufacturer defect, but how do I prove it? Do I take it to the Chevy dealer, and try to raise hell there? Goodyear rep or what????
Thanks!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif
mpdlt 09-21-2004, 11:40 AM klvn8r,
The only place you might get some help is through a goodyear owned store, not a franshised location. They can go straight back to goodyear and maybe, just maybe they'll step up and do right. But don't hold your breath.
I've heard of a few people having luck writing the company direct. Those have mostly been rv'ers with blown trailer tires. The company knows which tires weren't built worth a $#!t.

klvn8r 10-01-2004, 03:13 PM Good news!!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
Took my truck to the local steal...er DEALERSHIP yesterday for some basic warranty work, including them inspecting my tire. My 3/36K is about gone, so I thought I'd get it seen. Anyhoo, FRANK PARRA CHEVROLET in Irving TX stepped up to the plate and WARRANTIED the tire with the giant bulge!! Not just a pro-rata, but TOTALLY replaced it, free of charge! Can't believe it, it has 35,000 miles on it, and the service writer said he'd handle it. Agreed with me that it was NOT something I hit or other B.S. but a defect in the tire!

Sometimes (literally!) you can get some good service! Oh yeah, they said they had a steering shaft on order for mine as well, they'll notify me when it comes in.
