i have been trying to figure out why the fuel level gauge always stays as the highest mark - i was thinking maybe a bad elecrical connection to the sender so i tested it. I pulled the connector off right at the sender with the van running and it read 8 volts - is this normal or should it be 12 volts?
the ground seems good as well. All i know is that the thing more or less worked until recently when i topped off the tank, now it always reads full even though i know i have burned 10-15 gallons snce then and not added any fuel. I will have to try pulling it out and tightening that bolt on like farmer said a while back, hopefully that will help.
thanks,
Paul

Very often the sending unit loses its ground. Just jump a ground wire directly to a cleaned-off spot on the sending unit (not the tank) and see if it starts to work.

Ive had the same problem. My gauge will go all the way to the right and sit horizontally. This usually happens on the lake in the winter when im busting through drifts and hitting cracks at about 30-40kph. It is a case of the float flipping i have found, couple whacks on the tank straightens er out. RUBBER MALLET. NOT A SLEDGE.
