This is my first diesel. The truck is a 83 K5. When I saw what great shape it was in I couldn't turned it down. The truck has a knock in one of the passenger side cylinders probably 3rd one back. The knock doesn't cause much if any vibration, but it is causing a light white smoke out of the passenger side exhaust. The truck has a new intake and the owner swore that it wasn't knocking before the intake was put on. The thing that is puzzling me is that with increased RPM the noise doesn't get too much louder like a thrown rod would. Any suggestions? I am thinking rocker arm. Like I said this is my first diesel and I'm used to working on gasoline engines.
Thanks

could be a bad injector, does the smoke clear up after the motor is up to temp?

I don't know if the smoke clears but will find out. I do know that the knocking is constant and only gets a little louder when throttle is added.
Will look for smoke today.
Thanks

i would check that injector, mine did the same thing, but after a lil bit of runniner her she clears right up, might have a loose hose or bad injector, but that's what i'd check first off. search threads for injectors.

Ok smoke disappears when engine gets warm but the knock is still there. After listen as close as I can the knock seems to be coming from the top of the motor.
prolly injector, try craking the injector line one at a time, you should find one that'll stop the knock when loose
