I'm a GM 6.5 owner, (but don't hold that against mehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif) anyway, this is my first time on this side of the site.

Yesterday I was trying to help out a guy stranded for over 3 hours with a dead Powerstroke (2000) pulling a 5th wheel. Would just die within a few feet of getting started. GM's have a few common failure points, and was wondering where you generally start looking on a Ford for trouble? Not familar with the way they do things.

Not sure what exactly what to look for, but I hear you have fix or repair them daily.

Well, with GM's there is the usual check list you go through. Check for lift pump operation, PMD maybe dead, certain common things that tend to make you want to throw your tools across the highway, while spouce patiently waits. I did not know if there are any common failing parts on these engines that will make you walk?

CPS, Cam Shaft Position Sensor, very common problem with the 7.3's.

The 99 has been flawless motor wise at 168K miles and the 00 X had a CPS fail at 114K miles.
