: V7.4 and aftermarket equipment
Flashscan 04-03-2007, 09:51 AM Hi all,
One of the things we changed in V7.4 was hopefully more stable communications with aftermarket modules on the data bus (XM radios, iPod adaptors etc).
We would be interested to hear some feedback from those that have had trouble with these items in previous releases to see if there has been any improvement (without pulling fuses).
Thanks,
Ross
P.S - Anyone looked at the DIC whilst reading or flashing?
lakingslayer 04-03-2007, 10:00 AM With my Peripheral IPod adapter I have to pull the fuses otherwise the tune program complains. Also when scanning and playing the IPod my Cluster goes out on a random basis. Here (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143710) is the thread I started on that one. I had it happen this morning on the way to work again.
I did notice that you put some messages in the DIC display while reflashing. Are we going to be able to add our own while downloading? I heard a rumor about that;) .
winter200 04-03-2007, 10:09 AM I haven't loaded the new release yet but what I can tell you is that when Max Power hooked up to my truck with his laptop - he didn't have any trouble. I have to pull fuses every time I hook to the truck. Ill let you know when I get a chance to load it on my laptop and try it out.
MT Dmax Squid 04-03-2007, 10:38 AM I didn't have any problems at the track this past weekend. I also noticed the message in the DIC... pretty sweet! It seems to flash a little faster than normal.

With my Clarion Stereo and Sirius Satallite radio, I still have to pull 1 fuse, but I got smart and actually hooked up a kill switch to the fuse in question, so now I just have to flip a switch to upload efi tunes. I guess my setup is the one that didnt get fixed, no big deal though.
Flashscan 04-03-2007, 10:52 AM Thanks guys, only interested in hearing from those who are running V7.4 at this stage.
Cheers,
Ross

If v7.4 is the one that came out a few days ago and runs the dsp5, thats the one I'm running. The update didnt help with the need to shut down a certain radio fuse to flash.
lakingslayer 04-03-2007, 02:45 PM running v7.4 here.

The messages are defined in the file:
\My Documents\EFILive\V7\User Configuration\Messages.txt
Messages must be 19 characters or less.
I think we need a contest for the cleverest message. :D

I am running it also. Loaded it up the night before I went out to the track.
brianteel 04-03-2007, 05:54 PM i tried to flash today and got a boot log error. i am going to disconnect my sirius and see if i still get it
mojoe01 04-03-2007, 05:55 PM DIC messages should work up to 22 characters....
tinman22 04-03-2007, 09:43 PM I used 7.4 today. I have a pioneer headunit ad only thing I noticed when flashing was the recirculate button lit up on my auto climate controls during the flash, but no messages in the DIC, I dotn have steering wheel controls if that makes a difference. and when usuing the scan tool the throttle positon is peged at 100 and the speedo is in kph not mph and I have it set to imperial lbz/lmm
lakingslayer 04-03-2007, 09:56 PM I couldn't get the custom DIC messaging to work. Anytime I changed a letter in the messages.txt file it defaulted back to when we didn't have the custom messages.

I heard back from them, the solution "disconnect it", the device does not listen for a silence message from a scantool, it will always cause problems not matter what we do.

Thanks Ross! I guess it's time for another switch then.
Flashscan 04-05-2007, 03:40 AM I think this sort of thing must drive the dealers crazy, so far, nobody has said their equipment actually listens for a silence command! Probably about 20 lines of code to implement it

lakingslayer 04-05-2007, 11:06 AM I was wondering how a techII would play with one of these. Do you know of any aftermarket Ipod adapters that acutally work with the scan tool?
brianteel 04-06-2007, 11:54 AM it is the sirius unit that caused it. worked fine once i unhooked it

When I get the error you did I have to start pulling fuses.
Flashscan 04-07-2007, 08:27 PM I was wondering how a techII would play with one of these.
It wouldn't, TechII would expect everything to behave once told to, it would be interesting to see though, I'd be 99% sure it would have issues. I'd look around a the different manufacturers of these products and Email the tech support, they would know.

Ross
Trippin 04-07-2007, 08:59 PM I'm pleased to report that V 7.4 solved the communications error I was having on a customers 2005 LLY truck.
Great job Ross and Paul! :ro)

:exactly:
I think when the dealer thought they fried my ECM doing an update that they should have just listened when I said pull the fuses. I bet if they had waited 30 minutes for it to reset the ecm was fine. The first time I tried it without pulling fuses and had to wait for the ecm to reset I was worried but it was fine.
