: Fuel price watch
hamsalad 09-16-2004, 06:28 PM If you live in north Orange County, I saw diesel for 2.05 (2.15 to 2.19 everywhere else) a gallon at a brand new Shell station on the corner of Lincoln and Glassell. They have diesel at every island AND a stand alone island for the big trucks with a big nozzle and it pumps CRAZY fast! Lots of big rig traffic through the area so this stations turns its stock over a lot. Edited by: hamsalad
westwindsdiesel 09-16-2004, 11:55 PM I think we have it bad and where at 189.9 in mi. WOW
hamsalad 09-17-2004, 12:03 AM 1.89 is nice...I guess we can dream out west :)
Pilot 09-17-2004, 02:01 AM $2.00 even and going to rise in Reno. The price never matches the "national" Average, we are always higher!
flynn 09-17-2004, 08:36 AM $2.25 in Valencia, Calif. It's time for homebrew Biodiesel.

I used to live in Anaheim Hills until about 6 months ago when I moved to Corona. There is a 76 station right off Weir Canyon on the 91 that has diesel for 2.09. The station is less that 2 years old. I take the 91 to work so usually stop on the way. Not sure how often the fuel turns over but it is right across the street from Classic Chevy where I bought my truck and this is the station they they go to for their diesel.

dmacy 09-17-2004, 11:44 AM $1.95.9 in Western Massachusetts and on the rise.
Willy Williams 09-17-2004, 11:49 AM I am looking at 1.80 here in Missouri.
baimpala 09-17-2004, 11:52 AM dmacy,
Come on up to Newport sometime, just paid 1.81 a couple days ago in town. Lowest I've seen since I've been here (late February).
Dennis
Mark_my_word 09-17-2004, 11:54 AM I just don't get why diesel is so much more expensive in California.
I may be wrong but my understanding is that diesel takes less refining than gasoline to make.
They also don't add the 'oxygenators' that re required to be added to gasoline in California which the refiners are always pointing to as a big factor in higher gas prices here.
Of course I'm sure we are taxed more at the pump here than anywhere else but if the only difference is extra tax it still seems like it is more than it should be.
Prices like 2.05 and 2.09 here are rare. Most stations charge between 2.19 and 2.30. At some of the stations that charge more I wonder if tis because they filter but I never see any filters at the pumps. Only station I ever saw that had filters on the pumps actually had rust on the filters!

Mark_my_word 09-17-2004, 12:08 PM baimpala,
Actually, I don't mind. Having moved here from New Jersey back in 1991 I just think of it as my 'nice weather tax'. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif Two seasons, spring and summer, means lots more time to play.
Mark
newbiegirl 09-17-2004, 12:19 PM What I would like to know is why Diesel is more than gas? How often does that happen? Gas in the high $1.80's and Diesel the mid $1.90's. We purchase a Diesel and were more than happy paying 10 - 20 cents less than gas. Guess that didn't last long.
baimpala 09-17-2004, 12:23 PM Don't quote me on the numbers but Federal taxes are around 20 cents a gallon higher than gasoline. That's not all of it, but a big part. Volume of sales has a lot to do with it as well.

Mark,
That's where I bought my Chevy. Cool guys over there, huh? My salesman was Tommy. I am about 20 minutes from that dealer. AS for fuel, I keep on going to that Shell station. Good price, good fuel, compared to anywhere else near me, and very close to my home!
Mark_my_word 09-17-2004, 12:43 PM hamsalad,
Yes, I like that dealer. I traded in My Tahoe which I bought there on the Silverado. What do you think about the service dept. for diesels. Really liked them for my Tahoe and they are really great, just not sure about their diesel techs. My truck was in there three days for a knock before they finally came up with a diagnosis but what they cae up with sounded fishy. I have a separate post in this forum on that.
Just curious what you experience with them is.
Sorry, don't want to hijack your thread.
hamsalad 09-17-2004, 12:56 PM Mark,
No worries, my threads are flexible http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif. I have not had any issues with my truck at all, so I have not had to bring it in for anything. My girlfriend bought a truck (Colorado 5 cyl.) there 2 days before I did and one of her lights had water in it after a wash, and they fixed it right away with a replacement. That was great!
So, again, no diesel issues. I have 2500 miles and it's been smooth sailing. I put my Nicktane on at 800 miles.
What "knock" did you have? (Just found and read your other post...wonder what it is? EGR making a knock??)
ToddEdited by: hamsalad
Mark_my_word 09-17-2004, 01:26 PM It sounds just like a low octane knock in a gas engine. It happens below 2500 rpm so I know its not that I am hearing the pilot injection cut out when it gets over 2500 rpm.
Its most noticeable when I'm driving oin the freeway. If I ease up on the gas just a bit it goes away, back on the gas and it comes back.
I have no white or black smoke, it idles smooth, has plenty of power and I get good gas mileage. Strange.
I can't see how a bad egr module would cause a knock but that is what they say. Hopefully they know what they are talking about. They gave me a rental so I'll just let them go their own way and see where this leads.
Not to shift directions again, but, if you haven't done it yet, make sure you chagne your rear diff fluid. I know its supposed to be done at 500 miles but could not get to mine until 1100 miles. It was two quarts low like most other people have found.

Yeah, I already did the diff oil change. I was 1.75 quarts low and replaced with Mobil 1 full synth. I have had no problems with this oil.
Frank_EP 09-17-2004, 03:27 PM That station does have about the best prices in OC, and the high-speed pumps are nice. Access is excellent right there off the 91 next to the 57 and near the 55.
If you go just a bit away from the highway, the station just up the street next to Schorr Metals is even cheaper. AFAIK it is the cheapest place in the county to get Diesel.

mike04 09-17-2004, 04:23 PM Diesel is steadly on the rise here in Virginia, three months ago it was 1.53 a gal while 87 was 1.89. It is now 1.81 a gal for diesel and 1.64 for the 87. Go figure!
camper 09-17-2004, 05:40 PM Anywhere from $1.80 to $1.90 a gallon in the Fayetteville, NC area. Returned from Myrtle Beach, SC yesterday where I got it for $1.76 at a Hess station on the 10th, and $1.80 at the same place yesterday.
NorCal 2500HD 09-18-2004, 12:44 AM 2.13 a gallon here in Fremont,Ca ( 10 mins N of San Jose ) 2.13 bein the lowest and 2.26 bein the highest at a shell station.
Prophet 09-18-2004, 01:52 AM $1.71 in northern New Jersey, $.04 more than regular unleaded here. Low taxes on fuel here makes it worth the trip, especially if you run a Supertank or Transfer Flow setup.
Prices should drop later in the winter when fuel oil demand go down.

aka108 10-16-2004, 10:58 AM With all the stuff we are buying from China and similar 3rd world countries their economies will improve to a point where they will all be moving around in some sort of gas or diesel fueled vehicle, have furnaces and air conditioning and all the western luxuries. We are going to have $5.00+ per gallon fuel prices before it's all over. We educate them, get them used to our good life, buy from them and send them our money. You could see this condition beginning 20 years ago. We must enjoy screwing ourselves 'cause we keep doing it over and over.

6 months ago when I first brought my truck home - diesel was at $1.74/gallon when regular 87 octane gasoline was $1.94.

What the heck is going on???

1SAST 10-26-2004, 12:51 PM Diesel price in extreme Northern California. I am talking Mount Shasta, Weed, and Yreka is $2.45. Another note anyone who travels along I-5 should avoid fueling at the Travelers truck stop in South Weed. They had a large amount of gasoling pumped into there diesel tanks over the weekend. I know of several rigs that are in trouble. They have stopped pumping diesel but might want to stay clear for awhile.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

2.43~ here in So Cal. I'm with you there on the gouging. I think its up
much higher as well also because more people purchasing diesel vehicles
to 'save on gas'. Logic there is so bad, invest 5-6k more for an engine
