Is the sulfer acting as a lubricant in diesel? Bunch of guys I know are starting to lose fuel components here lately and I was wondering if the switch over is related.

Probably...Sulfer used to be used...Supposedly this new blend is pre mixed with additives and lubes right at the refinery.....

I dont take any chances....I've known too many people to gel up during our winters....I run Stanadyne in every tank...

I treat it like the lead used to be the lube, so with the low sulphur, I add a additive just to be sure/peace of mind.

Last week I went to the fuel stop and filled up with good old #2 but was out of my Primrose additive. After about 10minutes I noticed the engine seemed louder in a diesel sort of way. This morning I filled up again and added my Primrose and was almost to work when I turned my IPod off and noticed the truck ran quieter. I think the addatives may help based on this experience.

I'm not taking any chances, either. I'm using Stanadyne (year round). At least until we see the long term outcome of the ULSD lubrication potential.

Sulfur is NOT a lubricant, and in fact is corrosive to fuel system parts. It is the process of removing the sulfur that also takes away a large portion of the fuel's lubricity and a few btu's besides.

Is anybody using Redline RL-3 fuel additive? I am having trouble finding Standyne locally.

I use Lucas primarily because you can find it anywhere and its not to expensive. l Don't know how good it is compared to stanadyne.

There are vendors on this site that sell it, eg, Eric at Merchant Automotive, www.gmdieseltech.com...
