This is my first post here. I have really got to say thanks to everyone on this board. There is really lots of good info here and lots of good discussion. A lot of people are really working hard to help figure out problems and give advice. God knows most service depts. are not that good at that so somebody has to help out.

Sometimes, though, I just wonder if GM pays attention to the boards or not...

Well, anyway, I've never owned a diesel before and up until recently never needed to tow anything heavier than a trailer with a quad. Will be getting a toyhauler soon so it was time to upgrade from the 5.3l Tahoe.

After reading the board for a few couple of months and trying to decide whether to get a duramax or 8.1 I finally decided to go with the duramax. Got my new 2005 crew cab short bed a few weeks ago and am very happy with it. Was a little worried about some of the issues I've read about and have had a few problems with it (will post on that separately) but I'm still smiling!

Just wanted to say thanks.

Congrats on the new ride and welcome. I have had my 04.5 since July and have had nothing but great things to say about it. I think the best mod for the buck is the Nicktane fuel filter add-on. It's VERY easy to install and is cheap insurance against dirty fuel. Nick, who runs this site is the one who makes it. www.nicktane.com (http://www.nicktane.com)

You will find a TON of useful info here...and more is being posted all the time. Great bunch of people here, too.

Again, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome. I will definitely be adding a pre oem fuel filter. Can't believe that better filtering is not stock. I always wonder if that has to do with the high incidence of injector failure.

Yeah, I wondered, too, if it led to injector failures, but it doesn't seem like there is any hard evidence. Some of the symptoms leading up to some other member's experiences with injector failures lean towards fuel problems, but again, it was hard to finger that one item.

It seemed more LB7-type engines had injector failures although they tended to possibly have more mileage since they released before the LLY that we have.

So, who knows what the culprit is...or maybe it is a combination of things?
