Hi guys, I am enjoying my first D/A but with winter coming on I was wondering if anyone has installed an esbar engine heater on the duramax. We had temps below -50 last winter and my truck sits on the street quite a bit and I'm not near a plug in. I have been reading about the synthetic oil vs dino oil debate and now am not sure what oil or viscosity to go with for the winter. With 15-40 in the summer my oil pressure is 80+ just off idle with a shot of power-up in it and I am afraid of blowing the filter off in colder temps. Any advice would be appreciated.

Where are you from? Minus 50 cold.

Central Canada. -54 celcius with the wind last Jan. Lasted about 2 weeks. A vehicle cools down real quick in that temp. I drove an import diesel last year and had to leave it run all day.

Where in Central Canada? I am in Manitoba.

Talk to Greg (lunduytG) from http://www.lubespecialist.com He is a supporting vendor here and is very knowledgable on the Espar products. I am considering putting in an espar heater as well.

I ran Mobil Delvac 1 5w40 synthetic last winter. It helped the cold starts a lot. You can get it from Walmart or any Esso dealer can order it for you. Great stuff. I might try Shell Rotella 5w40 Synthetic this winter.

Thanks, Max, I work in Winnipeg so I will give Greg a call, I know some ctd guys that have the esbar and it works great for them. I am due for a oil change now so I will give the Delvac a try as well. I am getting 600km on a tank full, every tank full so it will be interesting to see if the syn. help out in the milage dept. Thanks again.

Espar heater are the cats meow. Have installed them on Duramax's and I need to get the one I have on the self installed on mine soon. Those that have bought them are really happy they did.
