Do I understand this right that the injectors on a TBI are rebuildable? I have the 93 dually with a 454 TBI. Just curious if the o-ring kit you can buy is for rebuilding the injector?
I tried searching for this, but I came up empty handed.
Is there a good area to turn to for books on the TBI setup in 93? I mainly want to know about the injectors and the regulator.
If I can, I was thinking about rebuilding the injectors and then putting an adjustable regulator on. At which point I would need to know what pressure I should be seeing and an idea of what to set it at for a stock 454.

The injectors themselves cannot be rebuilt without special service tools. The injector pod can be disassembled and cleaned as well as the regulator. Stock fuel pressure on a 93 is 12.

Thanks for the info!
So what are these for? http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=674&ptset=A&searchfor=Fuel+Injector+%22O%22+Ring+Kit or something like this, http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=752&ptset=A&searchfor=Fuel+Injector+Seal+Kit Is this for the injector pod?
If I take the regulator and the injectors all off from the TBI, what kind of seals/gaskets do I need to replace?
This truck has over 200,000 miles on it and I have no idea if the TBI has ever been touched. Looking at the injectors and such I would guess not. They are pretty filthy looking but still seem to spray okay less that little bit of a drip that I have on the LH side. I am hoping to spend some quality time with the truck this Easter weekend.

I"ve overhauled a few TBI's and I've found that its more economical to just buy a new Holley TBI unit. The last one I rebuilt cost me over $350.00. It needed both injectors replaced and the overhaul kit. That did not include the TPS or the IAC motor. My two cents.:D

Turbo City in Orange, California probably still supplies rebuilt (matched) TBI injectors along with bored out throttle bodies and whatever else you might need to restore/hop up your original Rochester TBI system. Don't know if Edelbrock still makes their big block TBI aluminum manifold, but I had one of the early ones and it made good power!

I've been looking for the Holley TBIs for the 454s and haven't been able to find them. Anyone have any insight here? I'm pretty sure mine needs at least a new pressure regulator, and I'm thinking I may as well just buy a whole new unit at 12 years and 202,400 miles.

The HOLLEY TBI that is reffered to is for the 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L engines. It is nothing more than a 454 throttle body that uses a HOLLEY injector pod and HOLLEY injectors. You can look on E-bay for modified throttle body's and reasonably priced rebuilt ones.

That pressure is correct for smallblocks. The big blocks I have worked on run 28 psi. If you put the smallblock fuel pump with a bigblock TBI, the pump will burn up because it can't open the pressure regulator. The pump relies on cool fuel flowing through it, and that won't happen if the regulator doesn't open. It actually will run okay with the lower pressure, the pump just won't live long.

I just went through this with a TBI I just rebuilt. All TBI's up to 93 ran 12 psi, and in 94 the 454's went to 27-30. The 87-93 454's had 90 lb/hr injectors @ 12 psi, and 94-95 went to 42 lb/hr injectors @ 12 psi but yielded 95 lb/hr @ 30 psi.

This has turned into a pretty useful thread to me. Thanks everyone for all the information being given. I had actually heard that BB's had higher pressure. Nice to know all of this!
