Anyone here running the PPE Xcellerator Economy tuner? Any input on it. I really don't want to do any tranny mod's and like the PPE because it has the EGR code disabler. Just wonder what anyone thinks of it?

Went to PPE and bought and installed it yesterday. I have it on the highest setting (160 fwhp I think?) It's my first tuner with a diesel. I have a minor shift kit installed by Mike L. ( Not sure all that's included but it definately shifts harder and seems like it delivers more power to the wheels.) He installed it for me for letting him have my truck for a week to model his LBZ trans coolers from (Very cool guy!). I hot rodded it around yesterday and it shifted real rough at WOT( and defueled pretty drastically). Today I hauled 3 dirt bikes and a quad in the bed, up to the mountains; it seems to shift great when driving normal and definitely has alot more power. I'm kind of scared to do too much because I didn't have the cash to do gauges yet. I don't have anything else to compare it to, but if the shifts smooth out without defueling too much I think I'm going to really like it. I do plan to upgrade the PPE tuner eventually, as soon as I can afford to back it up with all the appropriate mods. ( more fuel, stronger trans etc...) Hope this helps.. I'll try to give more progress reports when I've used it a little longer

Just wonder what anyone thinks of it?Im running the 90hp tune. It drives like stock, but with a lot more power. Trans shifts really well, and I picked up about 1 mpg. Im really satisfied with the performance, and have no need for any more power. At least on this truck.:D

HB, I see that you are running a full exhaust system. Has the PPE prevented it from throwing any EGR related codes, or did you get a fingerstick?

Glad to hear that you aren't having any problems with it shifting, that was one of the things that made me nervous, was people talking about the hard defueling on shifts.

The 1st few I installed did that. But they have seemed to have cuerd the shifting issues on the new tuners.

I have heard many good things about the PPE Xcellerator Hot +2. When I get some cash together I plan to pick up the Transgo Jr, and then the Hot+2.

caz41,
It's been five full days now, shifting has really smoothed out and defueling seems to be about perfect at WOT. I love it! :D Still no gauges so tryin' to take it fairly easy. I've tried listening very intently and can't notice any change in engine sound. (Extra rattling or otherwise). Has anyones engine changed running on 160 hp PPE tune or less? I don't have a fingerstick, but haven't gotten one code. The only code I've ever gotten though was the check engine light which probably comes on once every 3 months for about 2 days then dissappears for another 3. I called onstar the first time just to make sure and she said it was most definitely the after market exhaust.

How high do the egt's go with the PPE X economy tuner? Would I need gauges? I would probably only run the 90 hp tune. Just looking for a little more MPG.

hmmmm

If the PPe has a EGR code disabler,, would that mean all we would have to do is block it off,, and use the programmer to disable the codes?? No splicing in the fingerstick required?

Dan is there a minimum number of miles that should be on the truck before adding the tuner?

I would put about 5000 on before to be safe, We have a buch of GM dealers that install them off the showroom floor and I have not heard of any problems. Its a personal decision.

Did I uderstand you to say that PPE has dealers install their programers. I thought that the dealers would cancel your warranty if they found a programer in them. :D
