My question is what is a Bendix Hydro-boost system and what does it do? How is it benifitial to the operation of the 6.2L diesel? It is just that I haven't heard about it before.

It is a power brake booster that uses the power steering pump to move it instead of vacuum. The advantage is because diesels don't make vacuum and you can't push those pistons without help.

It costs $250+

OK so that is what it is called. I know it as a power steering brake assist. It all makes sence now, Thanks quantum mechanic. One question, would you be able to use the vacuum pump to supply a vacuum brake setup or does it not produce enough vacuum? The reason I'm asking is that my 72 GMC doesn't have that and it seems like quite a job to change over.

It would have to pull as much vacuum as the engine did or it won't be enough but yes, I've heard of this solution.

my buddy's 96 powerstroke 250 uses a vac pump for brakes and brakes only. the pump mounts differently but looks identical to the ones on the 6.5. get a parts store to cross reference these pumps to know for sure but if that thing can stop that ford beast it should suffice for your application.

OK it should probobly work then because the 72 GMC I'm putting it in doesn't have any vac controls in it. What is your guys opinion on which setup is stronger?

I've asked the question before if the stock vacuum pump is sufficient.
Three out of the four people that replied to me said it was fine. Sure
is easier if your truck already has a vac booster.

.

IMO the hydro boost is stronger and provides more force per amount of pedal pressure.
