I am running into a couple of issues the biggest being that the turbo water fitting with the thermostat in it is pointed right at the inlet of the turbo. Any help would be greatly appreciated. There were no instruction with my kit.

I know I'm the only one with a GT4202R on a LBZ. I'm pretty sure that McRat is the only one with one on a LLY and Redline Diesel's owner has one on his truck(LB7) or they put one on a customer's LB7. I saw the truck and engine when it was at PPE about a month and a half ago. It was a Red Crew Cab with a lift kit and had Redline Diesel sticker's on it. Give them a call.

From the drawings I have come up with it appears that an upper coolant pipe from an LLY would remedy the problem. That being said i wish I knew about this earlier so I could have order that pipe. I have had the kit for almost 3 weeks before I had a chance to install it.

I know there is one LBZ here in Houston with a GT42 on it. Not sure about the LLY's though.

Call Pat, he can help you for sure.

PPE is open Saturday, call them, several folk now have GT42's on their LB7's.

I wish I could be more help, but I don't have enough LB7 experience yet.

I unthreaded mine and cut out a plate and welded it over the hole, then welded a nut to the pipe in a better location then taped it to 3/8NPT

Did they supply you with a intake ?

No they didn't. Dan said they weren't finished with them yet.

Looks like I am going to do what you did and just relocate the fitting. I just wish I would have known about it earlier.

We ran into the same issue today. We've got the PPE GT42 kit as well, but my brother and I are putting a Schwitzer s400 in there instead. We tried to contact PPE about it, but their tech guy was out today (Saturday). We've thought about the same thing except cutting the top of the fitting off, welding a cap on it, and taping (sp?) the hex side of the fitting. Good luck with it. Not to complain, but I thought an install kit would be more complete???

ATS makes a plug that screws right into the water pipe.

I just welded a block off plate in the tube and relocated the fitting by welding in a 3/8" NPT bung. Now for the fun part, tuning.

Can you just weld a cap on the water outlet and plug the other end? I couldn't tell where exactly the other end of the water line ran. We just want to be sure we don't starve a water jacket.

It is the return line for the water cooling of the turbo charger. I just relocated it to a different place on the tube. The turbocharger doesn't need a thermostat, GM probably put it in for cold climates but according to Garrett's website the ball bearing turbos just need water cooling.

looks real nice JR.... makes me wish i still had my lb7 back....

we just did a gt42 last week on a lbz... we just do not have the room you have for the inlet piping, also had to deleate all the egr crap... the high pressure piping from the intercooler is not as good as the lb7 as well,... but boy does that turbo make power... gotta be a low 12 to 11 second truck

How does it run JR?

It is definitely a different feel. I still haven't put the pedal to the floor and held it there. Trying to feel out how much boost it is going to make with my original tune. Road testing on the highway I leaned into it at like 60 mph about 3/4 throttle and the boost went up to 40 psi before I let off. Was going well over 90 mph in an instant. I want to sneak up on the boost since I am not ready to install head studs. How much do you think is safe for racing an occasional WOT blast?

With that set up you will be looking at more then head studs in the future if you start to push it. That large of charger and fuelers will do a number on your stock rods.

Yes I know. That is why I want to limit the boost for now, inturn limiting the power. Then in the future when I do a built engine I can turn it up.

On my LBZ my GT42R get's 57-60psi with the CP3 Tune at level 5 Duramaximizer 1/2 way up. I only tuned it up close to the max(CP3 Tune level 7 Duramximizer 3/4 way up) once on the test Drive with Dan and it was ridiculous:eek: . The first time at wot the truck almost looped out and we were going straight. I still had the factory tires on though. I was holding on for dear life and trying to keep it on the road, but Dan glanced over and shouted "60psi" and we were only doing about 80-100mph. I would tune it up so you dont go over 40-45psi since you dont have head bolt's. I'm not tuning it up alll the way again untill I get the motor built.

wow that is some boost your seeing

we have it on a lbz with a dual fueler running the ppe tune 7 and running it wot, but only seeing a max of 45lbs.... truck pulls real strong

Joe mentioned this charger will run at a lower boost making much more volume of air compared to others(the type of compressor on it, and running 5"inlet and outlet)

are you sure on your boost numbers??

are you sure on your boost numbers?? I have had Ponci's Diesel Center owner/mehanic who was just in Diesel Power witness this and like I said in the previous reply Dan at PPE also saw this when we were test driving it because they installed everything you see on my 07' except the blow off valve and BD exhaust manifold. You also are only running one programer so you cant even really compare it to my truck which has two. Also a Duramaimizer helps raise the fuel psi above 23,000psi. Heck I guess if you still think I'm lying you could call Dan and ask him about it. Heck Dieselson's Dad was their to.:)
