: Tired of intercooler boots

The boots seem to keep popping off when I'm running someone at the most critical time. They've all came off at different times, but now it is the one exiting the intercooler (before the blow off valves on the twin setup)
I've used duck tape, shop rag as something to give it grip, I don't want to drill a screw in it. What about fabbing a "coupling" and tacking it? or welding it?

Anyone have any ideas? Happens around 35psi measured right before entering the engine.

Have you tried hairspray on the inside of the boot when you slip it back on?

I just got my truck out of the shop yesterday because of this and I got my blow off valve installed with a BD Exh Manifold. I would check the clamps to see if their bottomed out. If they are and it's as it tight as it oes get a smaller size. The first shop put on 2 1/2 I needed 2 1/4. If this is not the case check to make sure the tubing is cut long enough at all the end's. If this is not it last I would use hairspray. Also my mechanic where I live used these way better heavy duty lookin clamps that he used on his Dodge with twin's that was hitting 70+psi. My truck only goes to 60psi on Hot+2 level 5, Duramaximizer 1/4 way up. Monday when he's open again PM me if you want and by then I will have asked him what kind of clamps they were. Hope this help's.:)

If you haven't bottomed out the springs on the clamps already, I'd start with that. Also try and putting the clamp right next to the rib where the hoses slide over, don't leave any room for the hose or clamp to even start to move.

Did you clean the inside of the boot and fittings with brake cleaner realy good? Sometimes I have had to clean them 3 times to get them absolutely oil free. BudTx the hairspray is a good idea I have not heard of that before.

If there is room, put two clamps on.

A bead roller to amplify the bead will help as well. Hairspray a must. Make sure the boot is not all soft and mushy. They tend to do that on these over time with the oil contacting them with the closed PCV.

Jeremy,

If that boot is ragged out I can get you a new one. Is the clamp on the intercooler factory or one I sent? The clamp sizes I use are specific for the boots I use is why I ask. I know on the pipe side you cant get two clamps but on the intercooler side you might be able to so if that is where it is happening then that might be worth a try.

BTW the beads are rolled as high as my bead roller will let me roll them.

I was talking about the factory beads Nathan, not yours. I'm not sure where he was blowing the boots off so I didnt know if it was on your pipes or the factory.

The boot is the exit on the intercooler on the twin setup pipe, not the intercooler side.

I used to have a shop rag under the clamp but over the boot and it worked for a long time until recently and it finally popped off.
I don't believe the clamp is blowing off, it's like the pipe is blowing out of the boot. I think I need some new boots, or that one anyway.

All of the boots have popped off at one time, but now I think I have it narrowed down to this one.

Nathan, I'm interested in the new boot as well as your new updated system.

Eric sometime this year I'll be seein you for a nice build!

Eric sometime this year I'll be seein you for a nice build! I only ever poped one boot off and the whole pipe out the intercooler went with it. I had to beat it back into shape and tightent the clamp and it hasn't happened again, actually that's the only one to ever come off.

Has anyone tried adding a little texture to the IC/pipe ends and applying a bit of adhesive like rubber cement?
