Bperez180 03-31-2007, 01:24 AM why dont you quit beating around the bush, get your truck and buy a real set of wheels and tires

jeepj10jim 03-31-2007, 03:12 AM I just got 235/85R16's on my 05. Without spacers there is maybe 1/4 to 1/2 of space. It's pretty tight. They are BGF AT's. Cool this is, I did not have to pay for them. They were a gift from a friend! I will try and take a couple of pictures tomorrow.

Heartbeat Hauler 03-31-2007, 11:21 AM If you do any hauling or towing the biggest tire for a dually without spacers is the stock 215/85/16s. You may be able to squeak by with 235/85/16s if your load is light, but nothing bigger than that. With 2" spacers, you might be able to go to 285/75/16s, but you would be way past safety rim width requirements. I don't think you can get spacers any bigger than 2" because hub space is purty much gobbled up with the 2 inchers. So, a set of 265/75/16s w/2" spaders would be as big as I would go and maintain full dually functionality.....that's my $.02 worth.

jeepj10jim 03-31-2007, 02:07 PM I have to agree with Heartbeat. I think I am going to have to put the spaces on with the 235/85R16 BFG At's I just got. When the wife gets home later with the camera I will post some pics.

If you are going with the 235/85/16s, you could opt for the 1.5" spacers to keep the space between the duals from being overly wide. The only real issue is that you would need to cut off the part of the wheel studs that have no threads. But the 2" spacers are juswt install and go. Can't wait to see pics.

DetroitDan 04-01-2007, 02:11 AM If you're going to buy spacers anyway, why not go with a 255/85/16? BFG makes it in a MT, also Maxxis makes an aggressive tread in that size. That's what I plan to do eventually. Right now I have 235/85s with no spacer, but my 97 rims are only 6 wide. I believe the newer ones are 6.5, which makes them 1/2 closer together. I've had 6,000 lbs of mix in the bed with no tire rub at all. But I know to fit 255s I'll need spacers. One concern I had is most 255s I've found are only 8 ply load range D. But someone told me if you check the actual weight rating they are up as high as the E range tires.

Good suggestion, but keep in mind that the 255s are the same height as 285/75/16s and may require lifting the front a bit for clearance. No issues on the back......with spacers that is.

I'm trying to decide now between a body lift or keys. I'm also trying to talk myself out of the tires I just found: Interco makes a Super Swamper in "special service" narrow size for duallies, 34/9/16. Would probably hate them and they would wear out in no time, but man would it look cool!

Keys help, but they can put a strain on the rest of the suspension components and the ride isn't all that great. I don't know if you need that much lift for the 255s as they aren't as wide as the 285s just the same height. Maybe a couple of cranks and maybe some trimming for front tire clearance. I don't know about a body lift. Those tires are Super Swampers 34" tall, 9" wide and 16s, man that would look purty cool, but that is still wide for a dually, so spacers may still be required.

Here is a member (nomoregas) running 255/85/16 with no spacers (but with aftermarket wheels)
