So I've read from this site that sometime in (Jan?) 1997 they changed the 6.5 and added dual thermostats, injection nozzles and raised torque specs to 430lbs. I'd like to somehow ID my motor as to which I have. My build date on the truck is Oct 1996 but it appears I have the dual thermostats. Chevy dealers are of no help and don't know what I'm talking about, I can drop it off etc. Is there a way to see these injection nozzles? Is there a RPO code?
Any help much appreciated,
Diesel Dan

The injector nozzles would be in the crank journal area. They are to spray the underside of the piston with oil for cooling. I think there's a GM information page on the 6.5 for the hummer and the tech page said 97,98 or 99, don't remember right now.

If your block has 5/8" oil cooling lines it's got the oil squirters for cooling the pistons.

Some 96's have the dual tthermostats, but not he squirters. As far as I know all the 97's have the oil squirters.
