I'm confused.... the Wester's website says u can run 14-16 psi of boost with 3" exhaust, now wouldnt that raise the IAT??? without an intercooler...

I'm planning on getting an ecu but I dont know which one would be the best "bang for the buck".....

Also with an intercooler whats the max psi I can run?? whats the max psi a stock gm-8 can run???

For sustained periods I'm sure it would. Westers programs fuel and boost rates right into the computer. It doesn't matter if you're running the stock vacuum system, a mechanical control or have the waste gate wired shut. I've run mine with the vacuum system and with a mechanical controller cranked up tight. Boost is still the same. It will peak at about 15psi if I really get on it and then settle at about 4 -5 psi while crusing at 65-70 mph.

The danger of running a computer like that or a mechanical wastegate control with a stock computer while towing or really hammering on it for sustained periods is that as the IAT's start to climb, it won't cut back fuel like the stock ECM with vacuum system will. That's why you really need an intercooler.

My computer programming is pretty conservative. I didn't want an all out performance tune. I wanted something that would give me more towing power and better fuel economy. If you want something crazier I'm sure he can program it with higher boost levels at different speeds/rpms.

As for which is best? Hard to say. I don't think any one person has tried all the different computers/chips on the same truck. I went with Wester's because they have excellent customer service. Lyndon answered all my e-mails, I even talked to him on the phone. I've heard great things about Heath also and Kennedy for that matter. I also went with Wester's because they are Canadian and it saved me the hassle of having to deal with customs etc. with it coming across the border.

well heath is at the top of my list right now, mainly because of price, and also they are more conservative compared to ssdiesel.... I dont know I'm planning on doing an IC soon so hopefully that will help me out...

Westers has a type of 'EFI Live' tuning software if you will for the 6.5 TD (OBD I and II)....

He has just dropped the price of it because he is able to sell you the everything you need and set it so that you can just tune 1 vehicle with it....

Might be an option if you want to take your engine into your own hands...
