I just got off the phone with the Allison Transmission Dealers around here. I called to get a quote for changing my fluid over to TRANSYND and replacing the spin on. I have read a lot about this topic and know that I want to get this done, Does $176.00 seem like a reasonable price for this service. Also, can I do this myself by just draining the pan, changing the spin on filter and replacing the old fluid with new?? I have heard that the DEXRON-VI and TRANSYND can be mixed. This is my first Diesel and I got a bunch of questions so forgive me if they are ever stupid lol. Anyways, thanks for the help in advance.

You can save a bunch of money doing it yourself. I just picked up 7 quarts of valvoline dex VI full synthetic at carquest. All you need to do is drain the pan and refill with new fluid. There is no need to drop the pan on the ally. Take the spin on filter off then drain and replace with new filter. Clean your magnet and then fill up. Do this a few times and you can be sure to have mostly synthetic in the tranny. The valvoline dex VI just came out about a week ago and it is a full syn. Hope this helps.

Do it yourself, easy and a heck of alot cheaper, and you know it will be done right. Just remeber to put the magnet back on after you clean it.

I have been changing my own. I just drain the oil pan and add fresh Transynd. Will take a few changes to get the mineral stuff out, but won't hurt anything.

What mileage intervals are you changing the fluids at? I went to a local Allison Dealer the other day to ask about Transynd fluid change. The shop service manager told me that it came through with Transynd from the factory. I told him that it had to be ordered as an option, and that I did not see it on the sticker, but he felt strongly that they came through from the factory with Transynd. He also stated not to touch it until 100 to 125 thousand miles. Any feedback please.
Thanks.

I change my fluid at the end of every tow season (camping) They say Transynd is good for 50,000 miles which I come no where near hitting, myself.

If they are changing all of the fluid for $176.00 then that is a great deal. They told me iirc $325.00 for a flush and synthetic refill.

I did mine my self, and paid $220 for 5 gal transynd and inner/outer filters. I would do it before they see the mistake they did.

Exactly, to do it yourself. Yes, you don't want someone else to make a mistake
