Hey guys,

I have a question for those of you who have installed a power tailgate lock. I am getting mine today and will be installing it this weekend.

Where/how did you run the wires through the firewall into the drivers door panel? I have a powergate model coming and the directions don't give any suggestions.

I have already drilled a hole in the "common" place for my boost and egt gauges, and already have other wires going through the big boot close to the brake master cylinder. Is there another place? There sure are a lot of wires under the dash there:o:

thanks for the suggestions

Just an idea. But I was thinking of running it to the passengers door. That way when it is just me the tailgate is not always locking and unlocking every time I get in and out. Just saves cycles on the lock. Just a thought for you to consider. Good luck.

I was thinking about this as well. has anybody done this? if so, was the wiring the same? and where did you run the wires?

Well, I got it done. Actually the place I bought it at installed it when they installed my canopy. I wasn't expecting them to do it because we had not talked about it. I asked to see the instructions so I knew what I would be doing, and they said, "oh, we already installed it, we didn't know you wanted to do it."

I got a little nervous because I didn't know where they would have drilled throught the firewall to bring the wires into the cab and I wanted to wire it to the passenger door so the tailgate only opened when i opened all the other doors.

However, I guess on the crew cab trucks, they can tap into the wires under the kick plates at the door jambs. They did not need to run the wires up to the firewall or get access to the wiring behind the doors. and it seems to work perfect.

it is a pretty cool add on.

I did mine and ran it under the back door on the driver side. I tapped into the wire going to the lock that comes out of the doors and is in the pillar between the doors. A small gromet and some silicone filled in the hole under the edge.

Did you drill a hole in your cab?

I just looked at how they wired mine, and they actually did run the wires through the firewall. They ran them through the same hole I had made in the large grommet under the brake booster. I have my Banks wires running through there.

Also, at the tailgate, I ended up moving the wires to exit the small little hole on the side of the gate by the hinge. Then I ran the wire through a small hole that ended up going behind the brake light. It ended up being a much cleaner install. Before you could see the wire below the tailgate. It looked kinda lame:rolleyes:
