: 1998 heated leather seats?
98z71keith 03-30-2007, 01:27 AM I've had problems with this one...and I still have no forsure resolution on the issue. I was under the impression that up until 1998 the gmc and chev trucks did not have a heated seats option. The other day I saw a 1998 yukon with leather seats exactly like my 1998 Sierra has, except they had one extra button on the side. I read further and discovered it was the heated seat button!!! So, my question is...was this option available in the Sierra or was it solely saved for the family wagon? If the later....then why did they not offer it for the trucks as well? Thanks much for your time....this one has been bugin me!
Dennis Galligani 03-30-2007, 08:36 AM Heated seats on mine - original factory option. It's not so much of button, though, as it is a wide toggle switch. If you saw a button, maybe it was something else? Forgive me if you where just using the term "button" generically! :)
marktara 03-31-2007, 05:26 PM I aslo saw on Yukons and Subs that you could get the rear view mirror with the outside temp option which was not offered on pickups.

my 98 truck came with this on it.
OVPolarBear 04-01-2007, 05:30 PM Mine is an LT with leather seats with the heater toggle switch (off, medium, high) and rearview mirror with autodark, compass and outside temp. The only thing my truck's interior doesn't have is OnStar, which I think was the first or second year it was an option.
98z71keith 04-05-2007, 01:35 AM So are we concluding that there is no such thing as heated seats in a 1998pick up and it only was available to the Yukon and Suburban? But thats cool someone had a temp guage on their 1998, I miss that about my 2003 Sierra Denali, wish my truck came with it. So if it is so that heated seats only were options on the Sub and Yuk why the heck was it not offered for the Sierra or Silver?
OVPolarBear 04-05-2007, 05:50 PM Probably because the Sub and Yuk buyers want "luxury" options that most regular truck drivers don't buy. It's all about what's profitable. Realize that most SUV drivers are posers or soccer moms who can easily be upsold on options. The guy who actually uses his truck for work generally isn't going to spend extra on leather seats with heaters, and that kind of marketing research is what determines options. Same reason why the 00-07 Subs weren't offered with Duramax power.

They just did their marketing research on the wrong population segment. My wife would love a dmax burb
98z71keith 04-08-2007, 02:43 AM Market research huh, a very valid idea indeed. I agree they researched the wrong people, cause I for one would have loved heated seats.....i wonder if I can find a totalled off yukon or sub with tan leather and heat? Tough find but I would be interested in it! thanks for ideas guys I feel bettter knowing that I bought the truck I did with the idea that one with heated leather didn't exist.
OVPolarBear 04-08-2007, 09:30 AM There should be literally hundreds of seats available from parted out trucks. Keep doing internet searches and hope you find local ones, otherwise you get to pay motor freight costs. I have to admit that the heaters are very nice to have on cold days during those 5 or so minutes when the fan is blowing cold air into the cabin. IMO, the heaters are actually too hot for my climate and I have to turn it off of low after 5 minutes or I'll get overheated. Make sure you research the wiring so that you use the right fuse and gauge because they must draw some serious current to heat that fast.
Dennis Galligani 04-11-2007, 08:18 AM By the way, you can always buy an aftermarket seat heater. I've seem them at JC Whitney, I'm sure there are many other places where you can buy them.
98z71keith 04-12-2007, 07:54 PM I had never heard of such a thing. After market heated seats, thats great! I think it would be much easier to find and more cost effective to do it that way. I found some at http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/heatelcarsea.html and the instructional video makes me ask one question before I choose that route. How difficult is it to get the leather back on nice and tight, the way it is when you take it off?
