I am having a small problem with my Ford truck. I have a 1995 Powerstroke F-350. My problem is not a engine problem. It runs awsome. My problem is the tranny. I came home the other day and parked it. I pulled around back to hook onto my horse trailer and when I hooked up I could not get the truck out of park. I stepped on the brake like you have to do and it would not move. I called my local ford dealership right before they were closing and they said the park pal may have went out. They said they may have to rebuild my tranny. I was pissed and was going to jerk on it until it came out of park because they made me mad. I went out there and did not step on the brake and it went right into gear. It now moves easily to any gear you want to put it into and you do not have to step on the brake. Can anyone tell me what is going on and how or what I need to do to fix it. I do not trust my ford dealer for they have ripped me off several times now.

It's called Park interlock......it doesnt allow you to take the vehicle out of Park w/o stepping on the brake....

It's a safety thing....so that like when you go inside to get fuel or a beer or whatever an leave the truck running, you kid, dog, wife whoever cant accidently put the truck in gear...

This will also happen if you blow the ABS main fuse...it happened to me out camping.....I stood on the brakes really good once and the next thing I know the ABS light is on. So I drive back to camp, and checked the diff sensor on the top of the rear end thinking that something hit it. We got ready to go out wheeling when my truck wouldnt come out of gear.....So I started checking fuses and found that the ABS fuse was blown. I replaced it and everything was fine again......but it popped the fuse again everytime I would brake hard.

I just put a high AMP fuse in it and I havent had a problem since(I know that putting a higher fuse doesnt solve the problem but I was on the middle of no where and I had nothing else to use...)

I would check you ABS system, fuse, sensor, and anything to do with the ABS system....

Good luck,

see if it will come out of park with the key turned one notch past lock,if it is the interlock it will shift, note this is the position before the ignition comes on.then you will have to look for the electrical prob which can be fun, Edited by: donnie.ross

Do not let Ford rebuild your trans. I agree with the interlock comments above.

A similar problem happened to my wife in her 95 full size Bronco a couple years ago.

I was talking to her on the cell phone while she was in the truck while it happened. She said, "it won't go into gear", I said, "put your foot on the brake really hard and try to yank it down". She said, "it won't budge" I said, "just pull on it will all you got" Her next reply was, "it broke"!!! Oops.

It happened at her uncles house the day before we left for our three week honeymoon out East. I told him to look into what was wrong and take your time. He ripped the whole dash apart and actually repaired the shifter arm which has broke off flush and finally figured a fuse had gone bad. The truck didn't have a ABS light on like some one else had mentioned.

When we got back in town and picked up the truck I asked him what I owed him. He called me every name in the book and said I owed him nothing!!! He wouldn't even tell me how long it took him to fix it.

He is 67 and knows a thing or two about trucks but got in over his head I think much like the time he decided to install a brake controller in his wifes 01 Cummins Ram. He hooked up some wires wrong and burnt out the entire wire harness. $5K later which Dodge paid for it was back to normal!!!
