Okay so I'd been driving for about 50km in the afternoon...about 7'C outside...fair wind...not hot by any means. Me and my buddy in his Cobra had been fooling around a bit so no I wasn't being nice on the tires...of course this was all highway driving.
Anyways at about 50km through our trip, my buddy takes off so I take off and the instant the tranny downshifts my rear passenger tire pops. (110km/h @50psi Not hauling squat)
So I get out and sure enough, flat as hell. The sidewall was ripped apart, no damage to the rim ... thank god I pulled over so quick. So about 1/3 of the sidewall is shredded...a clean cut along the whole middle section almost looks like it could've been cut by a knife.
What do you guys figure??
Also thinking about switching to a 305/55/20 instead but.... Currently looking for something that has more than half a cm of sidewall. I mean the sidewall on these tires has absolutely no reinforcement...not metal no ribs...nothing. Couldn't believe it. So now I'm running stockers.
What do I do...:(

I am not sure what happened to your tire but in the past I have seen when the tire gets a puncture in the surface it causes a slow leak so the tire deflates slowly. While this is happening it creates so much friction on the side wall it blows out when it can't take any more.Check the tread surface for any sign of a puncture. If you find anything you'll know what caused your blowout.Let us know if you find anything.

That really sucks, Talk to Nitto they might send you a new tire... Otherwise i might switch to something else.

Nitto probalily will not do anything for him seeing it was probalily caused by running over something and the tire slowly lost pressure and finalily kaboom

i'm guessing your right with what happened,i just put a set of tires on last week and the guy calls me a day later hoppin mad at me because the tire i sold him blew,so i took the tire off and found what caused the problem here he ran over a nail and it slowly lost air and when it built enough heat it blew
one other thing, the nitto tires are a good quality tire and i wouldn't hold this against them

Well I'm gonna have to go out on what I said earlier...it was not a blowout. After reading the post from motorsportsfunguy and talking to nitto and kxwheels.com (where I bought the tires from) and had a better look at the tire. Looks like I ran some big pos over and it cut really deep into my tire. All the way through about 1 inch straight through the thick part of the tread...not even a gap. So I ended up replacing all the tires today and switched to a Toyo M/T anyways. But the nitto was not at fault.
For the record: Nitto was not going to do anything and Kxwheels were going to have me ship the tire directly to them so they could diagnose the problem...awesome guys, they were gonna pay for shipping and everything.
Anyone want 3 nittos in excellent shape??
