In the may 2007 issue of Four Wheeler Page 16 it talks about ford buidling, and designing their own diesel for 2010. What does anyone else think about ford designing their own diesel? Do they have the financial resources to spend the time an engineering to design a good motor???? I guess time will tell. I dont think they can affod to have any more "flop" engines like the early 6.0's anymore.

I dont see ford going @ it alone... you see they will need someone to lay the blame on when there engine runs no better than the 6.0 or the flame thrower 6.4.......:D

I read the same thing in Diesel Power. Only time will tell if they can do better than International. I find it hard to understand why you can put an International diesel into a school bus and it will run fine but put it into a Ford truck and it falls apart.

i remember seeing a a thread talking about fords prob with the company that makes the powerstroke. Maybe this is a reaction to that prob they had.

If I am not mistaken Ford already does have have their own diesel , they were installed in their fire trucks , dump trucks and stake trucks . As I recall it was similar to the Internationals DT466 inline six cylinder engine and believe it was manufactured in Brazil .

Building there own diesel didn't work out for GM, maybe Ford will have some success.

Hint, its because of the "F" word.

They still have Land Rover and Volvo in the corporate portfolio. I imagine that Ford would tap into some of that European expertise when it comes to diesel engines.

A Ford made diesel engine is way overdue. They should've started work on this years ago.

Ford changed the software in the ECM for use in there trucks on the 6.0 diesel- against the recommendations of International I might add, the result wasn't very good, yet they are trying to get concessions from International to cover the warranty costs.

The real issue is thier EGR and Oil coolers. When they leak they destroy the rest of the engine as a result.
