: EDGE J/A vs. PPE Hot Xcellerator

I've narrowed down my choice of programmers to these two.

EDGE J/A:
+ on-the-fly adjustable
+ shows EGT, boost, mph etc. in own monitor
+ doesn't reprogram ECM (dealer can't tell it was there on diagnostics)
- only adds 120 hp

PPE Hot Xcell:
+ more power! (granted numbers are at the crank rather than rwhp...not 100% sure how that translates)
+ can put tranny into 'fast learn' for power changes
+ can reprogram truck spedo for larger tires
+ reads and clears codes
- not on-the-fly adjustable
- needs separate gauges...I'd get EGT only probably
- dealer can tell it was used

Anything anyone else can add? I really like them both and they both have plusses and minuses. One of the things I really like is the fast learn mode on the PPE....has anyone used this? does it work well when changing power levels? I'm pretty sure my SCIII could handle either one on max power if I didn't constantly abuse the heck out of it.

Sway me please!

I have had both units. In my opinion, the PPE blows the Edge out of the water.

My biggest beef with the Edge is that the power comes on in a "burst" and it is at 2200rpm. Now, I have a manual so its more apparent than an auto because it would usually downshift. However, the power starts to come on way sooner with the downloaded(PPE) than the fuel box(Edge) also i dont know if you know this but with the Edge they make more timing by tricking the pcm to think the crank position sensor is in a different position. Works, I guess but I like the downloader personally. They both do have there advantages and disadvantages but what doesnt?

BTW take PPE's numbers and multiply them by .75 and you should have about what the wheel HP numbers are.

do a search on edge problems and see why they suck.

You should get both and enjoy the best of both worlds. It's only money.

The Edge has a read out but the only one that is correct is the ex. temp boost is not the edge also doesn't remove the speed limiter so that to me makes it really worthless when you run into the speed limiter going down the ramp getting on the highway.

Their not even comparable. The Edge box is junk I have one, but haven't takin it off 0 since October last year. You pay $600+ and it's not even stackable:mad: . The only plus on the Edge is the monitor. PPE's box rewrite's the ECM the Edge it trick's the computer by messing with the pulse and width. Buy some auto-meter guages and get the PPE box. Hope this helps.:)

The dealer can't tell you programmed your truck with a programmer. If anything you could get caught by using the edge and leaving wiring harness lose, wires running everywhere. Etc..

Also if you want a diesel tuner just get their Duramaximizer it's very very similar to the Edge. It also has on the fly adjustability.

Forget the edge if you have a built trans. Plus you won't have the ability to scan and check codes with edge.

My edge crapped on me about 2 months after the warranty ran out... lucky me. Do a search for edge problems and then make your decision.

I'm definitely leaning towards the PPE Hot Xcellerator....not so much the duramaximizer. Has anyone used the 'fast learn' function on it? I'm interested in how well that works....if it does.

with the built tranny go with ppe or buy efilive with a tune from one of the vendors--most will get you around 500hp
