Could someone please tell me where I can find out about the best tire size and type for loose sand? Is the 235/16 @ 12lbs the best shot for the 215 stock rims. Any help would be appreciated, thanks, bob

I have the Bridgestone AT Duelers 235's with Alcoa Hot Shots on mine, tow the TH to the desert allot and find they do quite well in the sand. I airdown only if the sand is really soft, been stuck only a couple of times (should have aired down). The lowest I would go is 15 to 20 psi, 12 is a little low IMHO.

Thanks R&S

I was going to pick up a couple of bigger tires just to use on the beach in Mexico and leave them down there.

If i got new rims just for the front end how can I find out the maximum tire size that can be safely used. I will be airing them up when off the beach to go to La Paz for supplies. Recomendations?? Anyone??

It sounds like the 265 is about it for that stock rim.

I haul a 4k lb Lance camper.

thanks for the comeback,bob:rolleyes:

265s work great in the dunes.Dont need to air down at Sand Mtn or Dumont but at pismo dropped the fronts to 20 lbs and the rears to 10 lbs pulling 10k tag toybox.Put it in 4 hi and no problems.Running Toyo open country AT

265's are a little to wide for the rears, they will rub without a spacer and mixing different sizes will cause problems for the 4x4 unit. It would be nice to be able to do it like the big cement mixers do it, big floaters on the front and standard size duals for the rears as long as the all tires are the same circumference it should work.

I deal with that Florida sugar sand also. The stock 215's sink like a brick. After looking through several other thread's I'm thinking 265's with spacers is the way to go. They look much better too. I need to find out what's the smallest spacer I can get by with. I don't think you need 2" with stock rims?

I run 255's on mine with spacers. Go to glamis about 6 or 7 times a year towing a 15k toybox. I have never aired down and never been stuck yet. I usually use 4 hi and we camp in the washes. Momentum is your friend.

I would be concerned with gravel roads. My area has lot of unpaved roads and my last truck was just blasted to the bare metal. I did not have mud flaps. Since the tires(265's) will over hange the wheel wells could this be a problem for paint damage?

I run 285s on my dually with 2" spacers. Problem with going with a smaller spacer is you have to cut the factory studs down. I can get away with 1" spacers if I cut down the studs I think. I dont pull in any kind of sand but my 2wd is pretty hard to stop in the mud now.
