: Recommendations for chip or tuner?
yieldmap 09-14-2004, 11:24 AM I've got a 2001 F250 PSD, and have decided to put a new program in it, since it's out of warranty now. When looking on eBay or other sites, I see several varieties of tuners. Some have 3 programs, some have 4.
I will be driving it to work occasionally (no towing, just road miles), pulling our 3-horse trailer occasionally (light loads), and pulling a grain trailer or tractors in the fall (20,000 plus gross).
In your experience/opinion, which tuner or chip would be the best? I would like to change the program to "fuel economy" for the no-load, and add the horsepower when pulling.
Is there specific tuners to definitely avoid?
Thanks
I have a 1995 powersmoke. I have installed the super chip. I love that thing. It is a tunner. I can run stock, tow safe, or performance. It will make a large difference. You can go to a web site and check them out then buy them off ebay. Go to www.superchip.com (http://www.superchip.com) and you can look around at different modles and find out what all they do and find out what one you need for youre specific truck and what you want to do with it.
Bobcat698 09-15-2004, 01:05 AM The TS 4 position chip is one of the best mult-position chips available for the 7.3L diesel. The 50 and 75HP work best for towing, and 100, 125 and even a higher level is available upon request.

Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help.

A colleque of mine had a Y2K and a '01 PSD with a bunch of different adders.
The one that gave him the best results was made by bully dog, the "flip-chip" it actually sounds fairly similar to multi position chip already mentioned (some stuff just gets bought - rebadged, and sold under a different name). One recommendation he had was that an upgraded exhaust is a must.
bullydog.com - check it out.
Two of my other freinds have '02's with the micro tuner by superchips, they always get overboost codes on the higher settings (80 hp plus)
Mark Craig 10-06-2004, 09:11 AM yieldmap,
We consistently see the Edge Evolution to be the best overall power upgrade, they are especially easy to install as they are an OBDII programmer, have the 0-60 and 1/4er mile timers and the best tranny shifting strategy. We sell them 2 to 1 over all the other programmers we sell here at DPPI. Give us a call and we will be glad to help you. We also GUARANTEE all of our prices here at DPPI, no need to take a chance on E Bay.

pdggr 10-08-2004, 10:23 PM If all you want it for is to feel a little more than you have I would suggest the superchips tuner and keep it at the lowest setting. But, if you want to have some fun also I would go with the Edge Evolution (w/Piggyback-for additional fun), K&N or equivolent intake system, a 4" exhaust system and at least adding an egt guage to your front pillar or dash to prevent meltdown. I hope this helps
STROKIN96 10-14-2004, 05:21 PM I love my Edge Evolution Programmer....but far it's the best mod that I have ever done to my truckhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif
I will second what Bobcat said a TS 4 or 6 position chip can't be beat.
Diesel Innovations has very good chips also. Any brand tuner is rather tame by my standards.
Todd525 10-18-2004, 12:19 PM I have the superchip in my 97 and the evolution in in 95 and a Juice with atitude in my 05. For the older powerstroke, the evolution is BY FAR the best, but for 99 and up, definitely the Juice with Atitude. Not olnly does it give you ALL the kick you want, but it has built in gauges for pyro and all the good stuff that is a MUST when adding a chip or tuner. Dont let people tell you ya dont need them, cause its a good way to melt a turbo, and cause SERIOUS damage if your towing any kind of a decent load. I dont sell any of them, but have tried them all except the banks big hoss, and the place to order from is out of marion ohio, they have unbeatable prices and even better customer service. The downside? the evolution is better and a little cheaper than the supertuner, the Juice is mighty expensive, and the guy I order from is kinda cocky, but if you turn something in, he next day airs everything to your door at no cost to you if it malfuctioned. (like my stupid supertuner did, bought it on tuesday, screwed up on wednesday, he had another at my door on thursday afternoon.) That is my .02
I didn't think the attitude applied to the 7.3L engine - no interface. It was my understanding that the JAT was only for the 6.0L.
Todd525 10-18-2004, 01:12 PM I thought that I read on the ford truck enthusiasts site that they had the juice with attitude available for 99 and up now. Perhaps I should edit my post. Bahh, if he reads all the way down to what I said, he will read thishttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif For the money and the bang for the buck, you cant beat that edge evolution.I have to give it to them on that..http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif
JD8300 10-25-2004, 11:33 PM Edge Juice w/ attitude is available now for the 7.3L Edited by: JD8300
Todd525 10-26-2004, 06:02 AM it is available for the 7.3 from 99 and up only though isnt it? cause if its available for the 95 and up, I might have to get another one for my 95 dually
Mylash 10-29-2004, 08:58 AM I have an F250, cc, 4x4 shortbed, and I purchased a Predator tuner
recently - It comes with 4 tunes, 40 hp towing, 60 hp economy, 85hp and
100 hp. I have used both towing and economy, with amazing results. In
the economy tune the truck thinks it is related to a rocket, and gets 3
more mpg... In the towing it blows less smoke, and gets 1 mpg more than
stock. I have a stock exhaust and no gauges on the 250, so I have
not used the max tune, and only tried the 85hp for a very short test -
it blew masses of black smoke, and burned rubber... I can't wait
to get me an exhaust......
