: What is my truck worth?

I don't know if I am in the right section or not to be asking this question, but here goes.

1997 Chevrolet k3500 crew cab 4X4, 6.5 turbo diesel, 4.10 rear end. 46,800 original miles. Truck was wrecked at 34 or 35k, and rebuilt. Block and transmission has 13k miles.
Truck does not smoke, just a puff at start up and runs strong. No modifications have been done to it. Everything is stock. Everything works except the temp gauge. Other than the rebuilt title, I can't find anything major wrong with the truck. Any idea what it is worth?

Depends on your location & availability of other Diesels, to find out what it is worth if it gets wrecked and what ins co will give you and what bank will loan on it for check Edmunds & Kelly blue book. I paid $6500 a year ago for a 98 Burb in similar condition with 130K miles, yours is a 10 yr old truck many will focus in on that regardless of condition, they won't want to be upside down on insurance value in event it gets wrecked and gets totaled.

A salvage/rebuild title will scare away most buyers, add undeserved bad reputation 6.5 has may lower it some more. Auto trader etc., will give you some insight what your local markect values are or what individuals think is fair market price for it, Diesel does up it's worth over a equivalent gasser body, but higher priced fuel may also be a turn off to some.

I have tried Kbb and NADA but neither will give values due to rebuilt title. I will look at Edmunds. Thanks.

Checked Edmunds, same as others. No section for Rebuilt titles. How do I find out what insurance companies would pay if totaled? Is there a website or do I contact my insurance company? Thanks.

Price between NADA, EDMUNDS and KBB ranges between 9,000 - 13,000 without the rebuilt title. Is that reasonable or is it overpricing. Also it is a Silverado package. I guess what I am asking is what is it worth to other diesel owners who know the in's and out's of the 6.5td. Any help on how much the rebuilt title reduces the value would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Depends on the buyer, no hard & fast on a salvage title, I know no insurance company will go comprehensive ins on a salvage, so it can only carry liability, if you are trying to sell it, that is going to be a hard sell, only reason I bought salvage 6.5 Burb is because I know em so well, I have no illusion it will be an easy sell, so I plan on running it till the wheels fall off, and I get a ROI payback ofssetting higher price of a marketable "no issues in closet newer vehicle".

As for what to list it at might as well start with a "no-issues-titled value" and start from there, go to upper end but be prepared to take less. My 98 Burb bluebooked for 12-15K & I paid $6500 for it.

That truck is not financeable & with ins issues it is worth more in parts than the true whosale auction/dealer appraisal prices. Some ins companies refuse coverage & others limit to PL / PD coverage.A perfect body,no issue 96 CC dually 6.5 with 149 K recently sold here for 6K & the dealer had it on the market for 150 days. But some uninformed chap may buy it. Nothing happens unless you try . The engine, dually bed, cab & doors in that order are the quick big dollar parts. Rest of it will take effort & time to sell with low prices,IMO. I suggest you moniter eBay to get a picture of the market. Value Books are useless for determining the value of your truck. Later model salvage units are about 40 to 50 percent of normal values in auctions, dealer or public here. Good luck

In my neck of the woods, the typical asking price of a salvage title truck is in the neighborhood of 20% - 30% less than the same vehicle with a clean title. Salvage cars are closer to 30% - 40% less.

However, the determination of worth will depend on how bad it was wrecked and the quality of the repair.

I've owned quite a few salvage title vehicles and never had a major issue with them. In fact, my wife's minivan (2000 Chrysler Town & Country we bought with 35,000 miles which now has 50,000) is a salvage vehicle. Of course, it helps that the guy who fixes and sells them is my bro-in-law. He and I inspected the van before purchasing it and fixing it up. It was bumped in the rear corner, scuffing the bumper and cracking the taillight. The damage was hardly worth the salvage title it was given, but a salvage title is a salvage title regardless of the amount of damage.

I guess my point is, to the informed buyer, a salvage title can really be a steal of a deal depending on the amount of damage and the quality of the repair.
