Went off just like jbplock said,Thanks.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

The screw in drain is quite easy to access thru the wheel well.

I hope no dogs visit my driveway in the next day or so as catching all the fluid using a five gallon pail was quite the trick and I failed.

You'd be surprised unscrewing the drain with Rad cap installed engine hot ,how far the coolant will spray. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif

Whether or not the use of distilled water is necessary at .58 cents a gallon and the wife picking up 12 gallons at Wally World for you,it's a No brainier. She said as she was loading the cart some guy said ,"You know that's not for drinking" she replied "Yes my husband is flushing his radiator" she's learning well. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

I drained and refilled 4 times able to use 3 gallons total after the circulation and top off. By the forth time it was near clear as could be.

I refilled with 3.5 Gallons of Antifreeze when all was said and done after my trip around the block.I haven't got the tester out but I'm sure it is adequately protected.

Really simple job worth the trouble IMO.

How many hours did you have before the drain?

LOL on the Dogs http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif ..

Concerning thr 5 gal pail, sorry I steered you wrong http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif ...my drain with the 5gal pail this past weekend didn't go to well either as I also spilled quite a bit of coolant on the ground ... I was worried one of my neighbors might call the EPA.. kept looking over my shoulder for an EPA patrol coming down the street ... I don't remember spilling so much last year ... I think I must have used a wider pail... a wide flat pan would probably work the best...

No clue as I have swapped IC. I can tell you I'm at 43K and 3+ years on the coolant.

My coolant always looked dark with soot and my draw tank has a tinge to it to the fact.I feel that, as I promote accelerated maintenance when your hot rodding so I'm good to go IMO.

Fluid "looks" fresh.

Instead of buying 12 gallons of distilled water couldn't you flush with tap water and after the tap water comes out clear couldn't you then add 3 gallons distilled and 3.5 gallaons of the green stuff? Or is the ideal not to take a chance by using the tap water for flushing that some of it wouldn't come out on the last flush?

I will recycle what I caught at work either in my Cat fork lifts or in a water tank for coolant on water bladder tension brakes.

If you use tap water to flush you'll never achieve 100% flush of the tap water as you don't get absolute drain on the Antifreeze. You have to figure it's mixing.

I'm not going to say it's a necessity to only use distilled water but personally the cost ,availability and ease is very do able to me so why not.
