What do you guys recommend for wheel off-set so the fronts don't stick out and the rear will move out-board a little using the same for all four wheels? What is stock? What effects will "0" off-set have? Tire size I'm going to go with will be the 265s or 285s. Thanks. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Marc,

The stock difference between the rear wheels and the front wheels is something like 1.25 inches on each side. The front tires stick out approximately that far further than the rear tires. The only way to get the rears to stick out to match will be to install spacers or dramatically different sized wheels in the rear vs. the front. The 0 offset of the wheel depends on the width of the wheel you are running. Please post the width of the wheel as well and then people can probably be able to help a little more with where they feel the tire/rim combo will end up (in relation to your fender).

~J,

Thanks for the reply. Currently I'm gathering details for a wheel purchase as I don't want to buy an incorrect wheel. I will be looking for an 8 inch wide wheel and still not sure of the diameter just yet and will be open to 17" and 18". With that, I don't want the front to stick out anymore than neccessary and obviously want all four wheels to be the same size. Spacers on the rear to bring them out to the same line as the front is considered.

Is "off-set" the result of changing the stock back-spacing dimension? Information I'm getting is that stock wheels have a back-spacing of 4.5" to 4.675". Does that seem correct? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

thats correct. if you want an 8" wheel to clear your fenders with 265s or 285s you really cant stick them out any further thank stock. you are already adding 1.5" of rim and wider tires on top of that.

Correctrac makes 2" per side wheel spacer for the HD correctrac.com I've been running them for two years now with nary a problem on my stockers.

Marc,

I don't know what the offset is on the stock wheels. Here is a picture that will help you with backspacing. If you want your front wheel to fit exactly where your stockers do, confirm the offset (with dealer or maybe someone here will confirm) and then you can look it up here. Then you can cross reference whatever size of wheel you are looking at to get as close as possible. Then you can get the spacers to the rear to match the front.

Heres the offset chart I use:

Just something to consider...if you are trying to corect the track difference between front and back...grab another person and a tape measure and get a reading from rim to rim(in the same spot on both sides of course) do it for front and back...I was shocked when I did it..especially reading for the past couple of years that a 1-3/4" to a 2" spacer per wheel was needed to make it right...the difference between mine are 1-3/4" so a 3/4" or 1" spacer per side would do....under an inch difference per side is not enough to worry about..IMO.

I think the stock 16x6.5" aluminum rims have 4-3/4" backspacing, not sure about the offset.

wow, http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

Seems like "offset" is a bi-product of back-spacing and rim width and therefore since I have decided on an eight inch rim the only decision to make is how much back-spacing.

So, guess I'm after answers of what "back-spacing" is proper to clear fenders/bumbers with stock suspension and only a 33 inch high tire.

Also, I'm oK with the track difference between front and rear will get spacers to correct.

I believe this info needs to be known before buying rims over the net.

Anyone? &nbsp ; Thanks again.
