It can be a bear. I think there is a thread in the diy section on this that would help you out. But I use a strap filter wrench it seems to work the easiest for me. Don't forget to unhook the wire connection at the bottom.
Hope this helped..

I pull the bolts out of the mount and that way I can change the filter with out breaking any thing.

I've never had that problem. But I think Eric at Merchants sells a spacer for those that do.

Just did mine for the first time myself this weekend. Used the directions and hint in the DIY section. What worked for me.

1. remove battery, makes lots more room only a 5 min job (with tools handy)
This was a hint from the DIY section, be sure to put a plastic bag and/or sock over the + lead. it's still live connected to the other battery.

2. Unplug sensor.

3. filter wrench with swivel handle. Lets you obtain a handle angle to clear the frame

4. I had to clamp the WIF sensor in a vice and turn the filter to get it out. The years of the dealer using channel lock rounded the flats and left me nothing to grab.

5. Put sensor in new filter, using method in 4.

6. installed filter using swivel handle filter wrench.

7. plug in sensor

8. Install battery - Carefull with the + lead, its live since its connected to the other battery.

9. prime & start.

Good idea to get another WIF sensor and have it installed on the new filter so it's ready to go...
