well i just called the stealer to get price and availability on rearend grease or lube what ever we call it today and he is wanting $27.00 a quart not including tax. i thought that this i just a lot high. am i wrong and just super ignorant or are they trying to get me to bend over? i knkow mobil 1 is a gl-5 so will it work? i would be concerened (sp) about the friction additive we used to have to add to this type of differential. thanks for t he help.

you can use any GL-5 rated synthetic lube with no worries.
I use Amsoil Series 2000 75W90...about $7.20 qt....see lubespecialist.com, one of the forum's advertisers....no friction additive needed.

thanks guys i do appreciate the info. i will go get 3 qt.s of mobil 1 now, and change it. really shocked me when they gave me that price.

As I recall, you will need closer to 4 quarts. 3 will not be enough. Also, www.gmdieseltech.com (above) sells the GM lube at a lower price than the dealers.

i did get 3 qt.s at advanced but i had over 1/2 qt. left over from adding almost 11/2 qt.s when i got it to get it full. i added mobil 1 in the begining not really knowing if i could or shouldn't. it is approx. 1/8 below threads now. thank you for the replies.
