My 07 Classic came with no hitch. I want to put one in and will likely get a Putnam class V but my question is install.

The install sheet on the web looks like something I can handle but is it the same if there was no hitch on there to begin with?

Also what about about the wiring, what would i need and is there a plug and play solution or do I need to splice into the wiring?

Last question (for now) is this something that has to ordered is it something that I can drive into somewhere pick up?

The wholes are already in the frame. Very simple bolt up.

There will be wiring there, just need to put a plug on the end of the wires. Hoppy makes a plug and play adapter, you could also get from GM.

You should be able to pick it up from any auto parts store. They might not stock it however. Make sure they know you have a 2500HD.

Hey Redgar welcome to the forum .. I did not know you got yourself a new truck . You should have said something to me at E-town yesterday I would have helped you out I was there with the Green Z28 . I also think Steve was afraid to race you.

Welcome to the forum and have fun with the new truck

Pete

Hey Pete thanks. I heard you were there yesterday. I did not get it till after the race but have been shopping some a few weeks for a truck. I did see one of your posts here the other night.

I am sure we will cross path soon.

I know he was relieved to get past with the win though I know he wanted it without my breaking. We will have a rematch.

Probally no tranny cooler if no hitch either.

I looked at many 3/4 tons and probably only 50% did not come with hd trailering package.

There looks to be cooler in front of the radiator, not sure if it is engine oil or tranny cooler

GM makes 'em, but they are rare to find. The only ZF equipped truck I could find when shopping last year didn't have the trailer package. Yet, they still optioned the power camper mirrors. Go figure...

I don't know if a tranny cooler is included with the Alli or not. Installing a hitch is very straightforward. The biggest challenge, for me, was torquing bolts to 130 ft-lbs. laying on my back. I'm sure the wiring has changed over the years, but my 2000 Silverado wasn't a simple plug and play when I wired it. I had to run wires along the frame for the brake controller and the 12V power supply. There should be a pigtail tucked up near your spare tire. I believe it has 5 wires in it. The "brake" wire is for running a lead to a CHMSL brake light in a topper, and not for your electric trailer brakes.

My 05 did not come with the trailer hitch either. I added my, used a hoppy adapter from wal-mart and haven't looked back since.

My truck has the tranny cooler and was under the impression that all d-max/allisons came with tranny coolers.

Hoppy connecter come with abracket?

does it connect direct to the plug under the spare tire or did you need to get something else?

It comes with a bracket but I did not use it, I decided it would look better if it was mounted in the bumper so I used a hole saw and mounted it in the bumper like this:

I see. Nice. Any concerns on maybe kicking it climbing up into the bed using stepping on the bumper?

I've had no problems with it and it's been there for two years. Maybe because I'm very much aware of it being there I take some extra care to avoid it. I find it to be a very convenient place to have it, no extra bending to attach the cable, keeps excess road water and grim off of it.

Just wanted to provide an update, I used the hopkins connectors and it was easy as 1-2-3.

Thanks for all your help. Picked it up at Pep Boys

also use thread lock on all bolts.

I was thinking about that. The putnam bolts and washers came in this week and I will put them on this week. I see two 8's on the top of the bolts but no lines

Metric bolts have a 8.8 on them.

Oh so that is not the grade?

It's the metric grade. The higher the number, the higher the grade.
