Hey guys, I was just wondering how my 06 2500HD 8.1 would compare to my dad's 03 Silverado SS? We both think it might be close, but the SS feels faster than mine. What do you all think?

The SS will smoke it,forget it.You need to do some work to the 8.1 to match the acceleration of the SS. I wouldnt worry about it,there 2 different trucks, ones built for light work, and show/go,yours for durability and heavy towing/hauling.

I own an 8.1 myself, and I would expect your dad's SS to smoke you. I have heard that the Silverado SS goes 0-60 in like 6.3 - 6.5 secs.

8.1 have lot of power, but since you have to have a 2500 HD/3500 to get one you are carrying around so much more weight.

Thanks for the advice guys. After some reading, it appears that the SS's will run high 14's bone stock. Mine definetly won't do that. Does anyone know what my truck should run in the 1/4? It's a regular cab with 3.73's, all stock except for a dual catback. Thanks!

Probably mid to low 16's maybe a high 15. With a cam, tune and CIA you could run mid 14's.

Think you found your answer, but I'll share my experience. I ran my 8.1 crew cab dually w/4.10's against a friends SS from about a 30mph roll and lost by a truck length or so to 75mph. To be expected...

I say you make it a contest suited to the vehicle.... Hook him up back to back, or better yet, hook each truck to a 10,000 lb trailer and find a 5 mile long 5% uphill grade. There's no point in drag racing a Corvette against a truck when the truck is designed and optimized for hauling a heavy load and the Corvette is optimized for accelerating empty. And that SS is more like a Corvette than like a truck.

A buddy of mine has one of the Ford supercharged F150s and wanted to drag race. I told him if he was willing to strap our hitches together and let me drag him around the parking lot for a while, then we could drag race with what's left of his truck. :D :D :D

Let us know how it comes out!!
