Looked at a 2004 2500HD D/A Chevy LT CC today. The dealer here in town buys up all the lemon law trucks at auction and resells them. This one has 16K miles on it. The engine had a cracked block and according to the paperwork, the engine was replaced, but because it took longer that 30 days, GM had to buy it back. The dealer wants close to high Blue Book. What should I offer back? The engine still has the 100K mile warranty, but the 3/36 goes away with a buyback. The dealer did say that I could get the same GM extended warranty that is offered to owners when they get close to the 3/36 expiration. Need some help figuring this out.

TIA

Jim

Few things here. You stated he buys back lemon law trucks. There is a HUGE difference in a lemon law and a buy back.

With a Lemon law vehicle, the titles are marked lemon law and usually sell for around 1/3 the value of the truck if that. A lemon law vehicle has a title that for the life of the truck indicates its a lemon.

A buy back is a vehicle that was bought back before it was deemed a lemon. Title will never show any signs of problems. Most buy backs could of been lemon lawed, but the customer found it easier and the company saved some money. In my case, my F350 buy back qualified for the lemon law around 5-6 times OVER the limits for the lemon law. Ford bought it back and I am sure sold it to some complete sucker.

Either way a buy back or a lemon for close to value.....heck no. The dealer is screwing folks left and right. Would you of wanted my buy back knowing it was 5-6 times over the limit. Keep in mind...this was one time over PER problem.

Run like the devil from that truck and that dealer.

Why buy a “buy back “ at high blue when you can buy any truck on the planet at high blue.

Kendall,

Thats the point. I would not pay anywhere near high blue book for a lemon truck. The only reason I was interested in this one, is because the entire engine was replaced. They are working up some new numbers for me, so will see. I doubt that they can make it worth my while.

Be patient, save a few more bucks and buy a new unit. I'm a little apprehensive about buying a year or two old vehicle since it's true history is unknown and you might be purchasing something that the orig. owner go rid of since it was a piece of ---- to start out with.
