I think it's normal for this truck but tell me what you think...
When I'm stopped and then take my foot off the brake it almost feels like the tranny or the torque converter doesn't grab immediately. It feels like about a 1 second delay but it's before I even push down on the accelerator. It's not quite a clunk but it's as if it's clunking because you can feel it but not hear it.. make sense..? Very slight but it's there and I've never felt it with any other tranny before.

Mine does something similar and I dont think its the tranny.

To me it feels like the infamous driveline clunk that's plagued GM trucks for years.

X2, you have to remember that the driveline in these trucks is longer than a wet week and there is going to be some play due to all the tolerances through out the drive train. I say it is normal and you will get use to it.

If there is any amount of play Id say its most likely in the rear differential. Or atleast thats where I have noticed things like this to occur. If you go from braking to getting on the throttle at lower speeds you'll probably notice it do it, or atleast mine does.

My guess is rear diff. and a certain amount of play is normal.

Yes, that makes sense about there being so many links therefore a little play in each creates a larger feel of play as a whole. I simply want to make sure nothing is going bad that I need to pay attention to...

From decel to accel there is noticable play with the driveline, you'll get accustomed to driving with a light foot on decel just to keep the driveline in the driving range instead of back torqueing.

EVerything is ok as stated the longer the truck and more u joints etc the more you notice it.

So, do you feel the backlash when stopped on a level area, you let off the brake to go but just before you engage the throttle? Mine almost feels like someone was engaging the rear bumper to push me, even before I hit the throttle. Not hard but it's definitely more play then I've ever felt in any truck. No clunking yet just the motion and the feeling like slack being taken up. I tried it going up a slight grade tonite and it didn't do it, hence there was no slack in the driveline. It's just very un-settling. I spent lots of time in my dads full size GMC he had back in 85 and I don't remember anything like that. Not to mention I would have noticed it even more back in my gear-head days. That old truck was soooo much tighter then my truck...:(
I guess I'll run it by the dealer next week when they do yet another supposed fix for my front end.... "AS THE DURAMAX TURNS" except my wife doesn't like this soap opera.

To me the throttle is very touchy, the slight lag you get from the turbo being there brings this all out a lot more as well.

Exactly what you described....

I had a 99 Tahoe that did the exact thing....

96 and 97 Z71's did the same as well....

I got my Tahoe's fixed like 5 times and it lasted a few thousand miles. My new truck started at like 1500 miles. I havent done anything about it yet though.

Have you tried the yoke grease that others have done to fix a "clunk", which mine doesn't have or maybe it's just to new to have it...?
It really does feel like something to do with springs like someone else wrote in about on here. I know what the dealer will say, "It's GM".

I havent tried anything yet. I just havent found the time to bring it in anywhere yet...Half of me feels like I shouldnt have to but the other half says, its brand new, warranty will cover it.

And they better not chalk it up to the 285's because the DEALER is the one who put them on for me.

Besides, its like the intermidiate steering shaft...Its a garbage part and GM's known about it for how many years now? So, in my opinion, its just something else they probably did to save a buck, and we suffer in the long run....

Just get on the ground while your truck is parked and grab the driveshaft and try to turn it. See if that's what you're noticing. I can get underneath my 92 and turn the driveshaft and that's what I notice, especially if I spin them in drive and then put it in reverse. Or if I park on a steep hill and try to put it in drive, that's a pain.

Have you checked you xmsn fluid level? I don't have any allison experience (as far as low fluid level goes), but the torque converter may not be engaging due to low fluid.

However, being a brand new truck, I doubt you have a leak yet. Just in case...

Used Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease and it worked fine. Did the area where the carrier bearing is due to the fact it's a 2WD.
Totally took away the bump. I would recommend if you have to take apart the boot to have the special pliars to put it back together. I was helping the tech do it and I was glad he had the pliars to put the clamps back together. You are really not supposed to re-use them but they did have any xtras in the parts department...
Now I just have to get them to replace a 3rd steering box and my truck will be right, I hope...

Mine does the same thing every now and then. A friend of mine suggested it might be a bit of axle wrap. It will do it at random times, but pretty much exclusively with no load in the bed. I don't think it has ever done it with any significant weight in it. Anyway, I have about 90k on it (bought at 80k) and nothing's broken yet, so I'm not too worried.

I agree when you first get on the throttle you really get slammed into the seat.
