Is anyone experiencing loud banging noises while in gear with clutch depressed and rear end hitting bumps. I have had it to a dealer three times and they are telling me it is lash. It sounds to loud to be lash.

Yes. Has always done it. I don't worry about it.

If you take it out of gear when you hit the bumps, it wont make a sound.

Being in gear with the clutch in is what I avoid.

Every truck I've owned has done that to some extent. There is a certain amount of "play" in the rotational components. When under load, everything is tight. Remove the load and there is slack. Back up a hill and push in the clutch quickly and you'll get a good clunk as the load comes off the driveline. Truks with auto's don't have as much problem because the driveline is always under load. Usually only makes a clunk when shifting into drive or reverse.

ditto. lash is normal but freewheeling is not the best way to go. Either leave it in gear (low as necessary) and use the break or follow Mannytranny 's way.
