: New 07 Classic, Kitties, blocks, fingers and Emissions testing
dieselchevette 03-21-2007, 06:21 PM Hi all, My lady and I brought home a brand spakin 07 Silverado 2500HD, D/A, CC, Standard bed LT3, 4X4 and all kinds of other stuff.
I live north of Seattle and are subject to emissions testing. If I remove the cat, block the EGR and finger her (the truck), will I be able to pass emissions?
Also has anyone run into warranty issues, I have read a few post on the subject but I cant come to any real conclusion on it. I know the dealer has to prove the mod caused the damage. I may just hold off until the warranty is out, but I still have to pass emissions for the next 20 years.
I want to keep the truck stock for a while but would like to do some conservative upgrades down the road.
Is it common for the engine oil to stay pretty clear in these new diesel engines? With my older diesels, all you have to do is start the thing to turn the oil jet black in an instant.
Also has anyone installed PCV catch to remove oil from the crank case vent before its dumped back into the intake?
Thanks all!
07 MAX 03-21-2007, 06:27 PM Congrats on the new truck..... :beerchug:
thejdman04 03-21-2007, 06:46 PM Congrats on the truck. I cant say for sure about your state, but here in IL all vehicles w/obd2 or newer, they just hook it up to the scanner and check to make sure no codes, no check engine lights. So If thats all they do w/your turck/ in yoru state youd be ok. NOw older then obd 2 they put the vehicle on rollers and sniff test the exhaust, then youd pry be in trouble. They also check the fuel cap for any leaks.
dieselchevette 03-21-2007, 07:05 PM I have moved around a bit, on my gassers they have the OBD2 and in WA they just hooked up and checked for codes, in IN they sniff tested even the vehicles equipped with OBD2s.
I am not sure what they do for newer diesel in this state, all my other diesels are/were pre OBD2. Those sniff test on diesels here in WA are tuff, My olds diesel powered truck smoked from day one, getting that thing to pass was always a bear. Lots of smoke all the time, kept the tailgaters at bay though!
Thanks for the congrats. We love the truck, absolute pleasure to drive.
CBRJohn2000 03-21-2007, 07:10 PM You might have to be careful, some states require visual inspections for componets like that kitty, and if missing, will cause an automatic fail. I don't know about your state.

not true. in il anything with a gvwr of 8501 gets sniffed automaticaly. when i brought my 8.1 in they sniffed it i asked why and i guess as of mid 2006 they started sniffing those vehicles
Dogface1SG 03-22-2007, 02:57 AM it is easy to do and still looks like you have it. I did mine with a 2 or 3 foot crowbar. Took about 25-30 minutes off punch and on. EGR I don't think they can determine. Ohio is not that strict. I do travel all over though.

cowhide 03-22-2007, 06:48 PM You could do the bar deal the truck has no sensor behind it so the computer can't detect if it is there or not. A looksy under the truck you would see it for inspection

I have been driving in Indiana for 20 years and have never had to get a vehical inspected
swayse 03-23-2007, 07:52 AM Motor oil will turn black as paint in just a few miles, worse than an old diesel. I blocked the egr, now it stays clear much longer. Exhaust with a cat just stinks, much better without.:D I'm still stock too, 33,000 miles and counting.

I live in Lake County IN, We've had to test(emissions) I beleive if you get a 12,000 lbs plate or above your exempt from testing. But they always do a visual for a cat with my gasser. I heard that diesels have to go to the testing place only to verify that you have a diesel, and no sniff test, and I'll bet they do a visual for the cat.
olboy82 03-23-2007, 10:06 AM I don't know how they are in Washigton, but here in Illinois I had to take my company truck in to get emmision tested in Joliet, and I seen somewhere that diesel's are exempt. So I hope it stay's that way around here.
Dogface1SG 03-23-2007, 01:35 PM diesels are exempt IF they were manufactured without. careful there
What was it 2005 when they started putting them on diesels?
