O.K., So I went in to the dealer parts dept. today to pick up my first fuel filter, and I was told they didn't stock it and they where on backorder. Has anyone else been told this? And last I read no one made an aftermarket one yet, is this still the case?

Just use the LB7 filter. Its not enough difference to worry about.

Shop around, the dealers are to expensive. All Duramax fuel filters are made by RACOR, regardless of the name on them. I found Racor's for $18 (Special) at a local diesel shop, p---ed me because I had just bought two for $23 each. if dealers can't get filters, GM should qualify another manufacturer. It ain't GM's call since Racor owns the patent...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Greg is right, the LB7 filter will fit an LLY and I have one of those I bought from him for a spare. The LLY filter is about 3/4 inch longer than the LB7 and will not fit the LB7 engine.

The LLY filter as of now, is only available from GM

While it is true the outer dimension of the LLY filter is 3/4" longer the element itself is only 1/2" longer. At this time we have someone that is examining the filter media of these 2 filters to make sure it is the same media.

After cutting open my LLY filter I discovered that the element was the very same as and old 7.3L Power Stroke element with a different end cap. I think they changed the element so they would not have 2 types in stock, which would reduce operating cost.

The only reason the LLY filter will not work on the LB7 is because of the extra length. It hits the valve cover, but Eric has spacers so you can use the LLY on the LB7.

you know what else is BS? The fact that my skid of what was supposed to be LLY filters is in fact the 89016324 filter which is the OEM A/C delco LB7 element. The LLY elements (97363539) are no longer avail from GM.

I think the new ones have a black stripe around them.

Dealer supplied filters cost to much, any name brand fuel filter is okay because they are all made by Racorr and are the same. You can use the filter for the LB7. Soomeone reported earlier that GM is coming out with a filter common to both the LB& and LLY. Fram is generally the cheapest fuel filter , I use Baldwin because there's a supplier nearby. Baldwin air filters are good to if you can't find a low cost OEM and I use Allison tranny filters because there is a nearby Allison dealer.

Still $18 here and will be that way for sometime to come. They are Parker/Racor filters.

I think the new ones have a black stripe around them. If GM ever releases them, they will be according to the TSB... Looks as it will be a while according to sources.
