Had my truck out at the auto shop at school the other day and one of my buddies was revn it up a little and i noticed smoke comin out from where the muffler was cut out, so the next day i had it on the racks a saw that i had 2 holes where the pipe had been welded back where the muffler was. So anyways im thinkin bout goin with 3 or 3 and a half, maybe even 4 and then a 5 inch tip. What do u guys think. P.S. the pipes r stock except for a 3 inch tip

go for the 4, jmho. i love the sound of my truck now and wish i would have done it right when i bought it. performance won't be any different from 3 to 4, but it might be a little louder. the whistle is amazing! and now when i shut my truck off, i can even hear the turbo spool down. when you get a tip, but stainless steel, unless you want to be cleanin the chrome every other day.

yeah that is pretty much what mine sounds like. mine whistles a bit more, but mine doesnt come out from underneath the truck. it just has a 45 degree elbow pointin at the ground. it ends at the front of the leaf springs.

i dont know if its just mine but sometimes it kinda sounds a little like a gas burner, do u think these bigger pipes will give it a deeper louder sound. and i know i dont need to try and compare these enginesto cummins and powerstrokes but what is it that make them sound so good out the exhaust

Open it up _9465 and you won't regret it.

Downpipe, straight piped and no need for a tip.

AFTER DOING THAT MOD I can see I should have done it much sooner including the 3" pipe w/ no cat, n muf. got it all done last wedsenday. and now I'm loving it. JUst do it. well worth the money. Remember a little bend there plugs up the free flowing exhaust that this eng needs to breath and work right. Well worth the $90.00 and 2 hours install time to me.

Definately change the downpipe, although it doesn't look that bad while in the truck wait till you pull it. Even my 2000 was well worth changing and you won't regret it.

I ran mine out the back like a stock unit because i use my truck as an office and work in it all day, not nice breathing diesel fumes all day coming from under the truck.

I have 3" on my 95 with a muffler, the sound change from 3 to 4....

4" is awesome!!!!!!!!

I've never had an issue with exhaust smell with my exhaust the way it is (staright piped). Although, if you stand 20-30 ft behind me you'll get it all.

the sound from a 6.5 with an aftermarket downpipe is much better than one with the stock downpipe.

Can you buy just the down pipe somewhere? I already got the kitty cat and muffler extracted and replaced with a hunk of 3".

Alrighty, you talked me into it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Can somebody get me that part #? I'm gonna order mine this morning so it's here when I get back from Wisconsin (yup, heading to packer-land for a little learning session at the UofW - Soils for Non-Soils Engineers - sounds like exciting stuff, doesn't it?)

Thanks!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

PS: Will I need to pick up any other parts, or is everything included with the kit?Edited by: w_huisman

Get the gasket for the flange before the cat or the bottom of the downpipe, same place, and have it before you pull your stuff apart. This is a dealer only item, but only bout $5.00 bucks or so.

Hm, the downpipes shown on the pics here do not have the plate that connects to the plate at the cat-side of the exhaust. They seem to be made for plugging into some exhaust pipe running to the back and to be fastened with an exhaust-clamp(? large 'hose clamp' for exhausts). Without the plate, you won't need the gasket, would you?

But what about the x/o pipe? Do you need gaskets to replace it with the pipe in the kit?

The summit kit has the plate. My downpipe is a bullydog downpipe for a 93 no cat.

On the x/o it has exhaust donuts, they wear out and leak sometimes.Edited by: quantum mechanic

QM, thanks!

Have you replaced the x/o pipe, too?

Ok, thanks! Those gaskets shouldn't cost much, and if I should get the kit, I shall get the gaskets as well :)
