I am driving along and my low oil pressure light comes on I freaked out and pulled over immeditly. I checked my oil it was half way up the stick a little dirty but no big deal. I started up and the warning came back on the pressure was almost 0 at adile when I pushed the accerarator the pressure went up but went back down as soon as I let off. So I took the juice off and everything went back to normal I think I have had it with Edge to many problems. I will drive around for awhile with out it just to make sure. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what is your oil pressure mine stays around 40 when I am cruising but ranges anywere from 20 to 45 when driving.
I'm guessing the edge may have interfered with your gauge reading somehow, but I'm pretty sure the oil pump (and bypasses) itself is purely mechanical and you either really did have pressure, or you have a much more serious and unrelated issue. I imagine the pressure sender feeds a value to the ECM, which is represented by the gauge driver. I'll look when I get time. Later years like yours have lower pressure than '01's; Your readings are nominal for your year according to posts here. An early '01 like mine gets a full 80 psi cold, 40-60 idle ---> 70-almost 80 warmed up and running around, varying instantly with revs. Slightly lower with synthetics or lower viscosity, or when really warmed up after cruising for a while. Search for oil pressure on forums to see what everybody gets, and with what. I'm still using Delo 400.
I don't think the Edge will affect oil pressure either. I don't think it will affect the readout either, but you don't say if you tried hooking the Edge back up and got the same zero reading again?
The other note is that your oil pressure seems on the low side to me. Mine, and most of the posts I've seen from others in another thread on oil pressure, seems to be about 30 psi at idle and about 60 psi cruising.
If you can get access to a manual guage, I think I'd be checking to see what the actual pressure is...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
Could be just an indication problem with either the sending unit or the display, but if it really is that low, I'd suggest pulling oil samples for analysis and monitoring the situation closely.

Oops
I was smoking crack when I typed those numbers mine are 30 at idle and 60 plus cruising.

I just had a little funky reading on my truck the other day too for some unknown reason. My pressure went down to about 10 lbs at idle but up to 60 when revved up. And the motor was still cold, I stopped at the next light and it was normal again right at 30. Next stop it was back to 10 hmmmmm. I looked under the motor at the sending unit and the only thing I noticed was that the wires seemed to be pulled awfully tight. I tugged them back a little so there was some slack and the guage seems to be good again. Not sure if that was actually the problem or just a coincidence.
Called the dealer he said he's seen a couple of sending unit's go bad but not too often. I have to bring it in to replace the oil level sending unit gasket since it's leaking a little oil out and I'll have them change the pressure sending unit too.
I think I saw someone post that their guage cluster was bad and the dealer had to replace that to fix the incorrect guage readings.

I had similar problems check out my post on this thread http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=14710&PN=2

The Edge basically can't be the problem. It does not touch any gauge signals specifically between the PCM and the guage cluster. That's not to say that a person might not inadvertantly damage something on the wiring harness when connecting or disconnecting the unit.
Here's some notes fromt the General file for those that have been lucky enough to avoid low oil pressure problems in their life. Just some general http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
As stated before, the pump is machanical and the bypass valve for the Oil filter is probably the typical spring unit which is designed to let oil go by when you have a clogged filter. The pressure from the oil pump side gets high enough to open the spring vavle and let oil by to the engine to continue lubrication. This would be a very rare event unless a person never ever changed a filter. Hence the commonly refered to as the name is; "Honey I didn't know the oil needed to ever be changed valve". http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
I haven't looked for the oil sending unit on the truck yet but it is typically after the filter on the topside of the block. So the clogged filter problem could cause the appearance of lower oil pressure. Nine times out of ten though, if you're not putting power adders on the motors, it's simply the oil sending unit going bad.
The mechanical oil pumps are usually crank driven typically and don't fail. They may have a gasket on the oil pan pick up tube that could loose the seal and cause a pressure drop there too but that will typically only happen if you've had the pump off and the pan down and you've not reset the gaskets or the seal properly.
When we are talking power adder damage to main bearings and other parts, we'd be looking at repeated use of 150-200+ shots of Nitrous or some serious double stacking of boxes and a smaller shot of Nitrous. At these power adder levels, the shock of the hit combined with the power of the motor is driving the crank down into the mains and grinding away the material. That continually widening gap allows more oil to flow through faster and drops the pressure. So you'll see serious pressure drops from the cold start to when the motor heats up. That's when you need to get the oil analysis done to check for bearing materials that may be flowing around from all that grinding in the oil.
If you ever have to give it gas to get pressure up from 0... you're heading for a rebuild. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif There's nothing like getting an escort home from the track by a sympathetic police officer who figures it's better to run the lights than to have you idleing at 2,500 rpms at each stop light hahahaha. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
