Well? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif Some guys run additives, others don't! Your owners manual says not to. Personally I'm not running any additives and my LLY runs great. That being said, someone else is going to post behind me that there LLY ran like crap until they started using stanadyne or Powerservice. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

The LLY is supposed to have sufficient filtration. GM states using them can void your warranty.

G.M. Says only that (you don't want anything with alchohol). Some say it will fix injector problems even after they develop. I think I even read somewhere here that some dealers will use it before replacing injectors to try to fix them.

So you can use it as little or as much as you want or just keep a bottle in the truck, and if you develop a problem pour it in.

I use P.S. in every tank it only costs $1 per tank and I get 1-2 MPG better mileage. Walmart has a large bottle for $10.99 and treats 300 gal., so 10 treatments at 30 gal. ea.

If you are an "anti-WAL-MART'r", I have seen it at Flying J truck stops for $14-15

Dang MaxCamper, what are you doing posting at 3:09 am? I'm only awake this early because the dang 6lb yorkie layed into a 12 pound armadillo in my backyard! That's what I get for getting an attack Yorkie! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

turbo lcc, did I hit that nail on the head? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif This post is likely to start cranking, fuel additives is usually a hot topic! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif I'm a bit, OK a lot, anal and tend to research things to death, then research them some more, then a little more, etc., you get the drift! I'm also "meck-anickel-ly challenged" so I'm always concerned about my $40k+ investment. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif I read the posts, digest them, and make my decisions on my truck. I always learn something new when engaging in these discussions, this time is no exception.

So at 5:15 this morning I'm out in the truck digging the ole owners manual out on the Dumax. Max and I were close. The owners manual states "Diesel fuel or additives not recommended in this manual could damage your fuel system and engine. Your warranty would not cover this damage. And: Aftermarket diesel fuel additives are not tested by General Motors. Some additives, particularly those which contain alcohol or water emulsifiers, may damage your fuel system. If you believe your unique circumstances call for a fuel additive to be used, consult your dealer for advice."

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif So GM doesn't explicitly state that use of additives will void your warranty, my bad. However, I read this statement as not only applying to just additives with alcohol either. Heck, I didn't find any diesel fuel additives recommended in the owners manual or the recommended fluids list.

The following statement was on one DP post titled "Fuel additives, what's the dirt? "GM only has 2 approved for now, one is Stanadyne and the other is Racor. Both are Demulsifiers." I did find the following link that supports this for the LB7, not sure about the LLY with its new injection system. This article from GM states diesel fuel additives are not required or recommended for normal usage. Maybe one of the DP guys has intel from GM on the LLY?

As already stated, I am on the west coast so it was only midnight.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

As you said I don't think it is a cut and dry decision on warranty. This TSB http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=154&PN=2 states that GM does not recommend or require additives, however it says if you want to, just dont use anything with alcohol. I know Power Service, the one in question here states specificaly it DOES NOT have alcohol.

MaxCamper,

A 1-2mpg gain is certainly worth consideration! I'll do some additional research. If in my comfort zone I'll try it. I just don't trust GM when it comes to warranty. They gave me a real hassle about using transynd in my Allison even though it meet Dexron III specs. JJ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Just dont tell 'em !!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif You dont think they are going to send out fuel or ATF for testing..... NOT.

My theory with dealers is don't tell if it cant be proved, all you do is give them an easy out.

I've been running Stanadyne from the first tank. I don't think you'd have to tell the dealer. My exhaust has a distinct smell of Stanadyne which is one of the nastier smelling fluids I've encountered. Hopefully the fact that the odor survives a diesel combustion indicates that it's actually reaching the critical components and helping!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
