I am going to install a power saver block heater thermostat control and need some help.
If you're not familiar with these, they are used with your block heater to turn the power off/on depending on temp. The thermostat end is formed to fit up against one of the heater hoses and when the hose temp falls below 20F it lets power flow to the block heater. When the water in the hose gets a bit warmer than 20F it shuts off the power. It is really slick for those of us that might have to leave on a minutes notice in the middle of winter and don't want the block heater to run all the time.
The one I have came without instructions so I have two questions.
1) How do you identify which heater hose is in and which one is out?
2) Which hose should it be attached to? Probably the one with the most direct route to the fluid near the block heater. So which would that be, in or out?

Your "power saver block heater thermostat control" sounds pretty cool.. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif.. Do you have any more info ... brand, P/N link, ect ?
The heater inlet is on the right... Click Here for a picture (http://community.webshots.com/photo/91409363/91410881Llpdun). The inlet hose should always be warmer so I would think this is the one to use...
The picture above also shows how to remove the heater hose quick disconnect (QD) fitting with a QD tool. Disconnecting the inlet and/or outlet fittings makes it easy to remove the OEM hose from the fitting. I ran into this when installing my Baldwin B5134 Coolant Filter (http://community.webshots.com/album/91409363hjwmod)

Jbplock,
It is pretty cool but doesn’t seem to be very popular or at least not well known. A long while ago, maybe 10-15 years, the power companies in parts of Canada went on a conservation rampage. They started providing these things to their customers almost free. After some time they stopped doing that.
I had a 1989 f250 7.3 diesel prior to this truck and it had been in Whitehorse, Yukon for a while and it had one installed. When I traded for my dmax summer of 03 I forgot to remove it and I really wanted another. That fall we took a 13,700 drive across Canada to Newfoundland Island and back. I stopped dozens of places asking about it but no one had a clue what I was talking about.
Coming back through Whitehorse I stopped at Territorial Auto Parts, 9004 Quartz Road, Whitehorse, YT Y1A 2Z5, Tel: 867-668-4141
The guy there seemed to remember them so he looked them up in his book and found them so he thought they would still be available to order. They were about $30 Canadian ($20-25) US. I figured I get our local parts store to order one when I got home but never got around to it.
This summer we were in Fairbanks rummaging around a thrift store. I was looking for a 110v extension cord and I just happened to run across this power save cord new in the box but without instructions for $7.50. They stars must have all been aligned just right, eh?
Here is the info from the box
Temro’s Power Saver Cord
Temro
Div. of Budd Canada
PO Box 962
Winnipeg, Man R3C2V3
800-665-0169
The product upc code on the box is 2900009 in Canada and 3600013 in US. I did a quick search on the net and it looked like Temro had been sold to another company and I could not find any references to the power saver cord. If you dig a bit you might find one.
I posted a picture of it at
