I'm looking for a short PMD extension harness. I mounted my PMD/heat sink on top of the intake. My original harness won't pull free to plug in as the others I've installed did.
Does anybody make a short harness for this?
Where can I find pics of the other end of the OEM harness? I was thinking about getting another OEM style harness and rerouting it. I don't know where it ties in before it runs to the IP.

Bill Heath of Heath Diesel sells a harness and plate mounted FSD. Don't know if he would sell just the harness. Don't bother to consider mounting it on the intake manifold. Mount it somewhere outside the engine compartment. Mine is mounted behind the bumper and can be seen on my page noted below.

Or make your own like I did.. I bought a new factory PMD harness from one of the vendors and extended it to 90" with 18GA wire i bought at autozone. I soldered and shrink tubed everything and it turned out well and costs a heck of a lot less that those other guys are charging.. I also mounted my PMD in front of the driver side battery and it seems to stay much cooler there...

buy the long harness. Mount it outside the engine compartment.

Personally I don't see why everyone wants to mount it outside where its exposed to freezing cold and weather. Yes, the heat in the intake valley will kill it, but only after about ten years. That doesn't mean that cold air is better for it, it isn't like intake air that's being cooled for density and power. All you need to do is take a hundred degrees or so away and it will last plenty long. On the intake with a heat sink is fine. I put mine on the fenderwell behind the drivers side battery on a sink, I bet it's 150 degrees cooler than it was, and there's no need to get it any cooler than that. They were after all designed to work in a hot environment, not a cold one. JMO

wow, you need to dig up some posts about some tests that have been done......

I keep hearing about PMD failures, have not experienced one yet though. Got my truck with 160,000 miles on it and in the process of chasing down a broken valve spring, I replaced the IP. All the "experts" were pointing me at fuel issues while I was scratching me head thinking mechanical issues. Picked up a used IP on the "bay" for $65 including shipping and put it on.
Put the PMD that came with the truck on the IP with a good coat of heat sink compound. It is a 34583 PMD, the better one. I put a bit over 100,000 on it like that without a problem.
I really do think that if the pump gets plenty of fuel flow for cooling, the PMD lasts a very long time right where the General put it. Compromise the fuel flow with a bad LP and the IP and PMD are pretty much doomed. Monitor the IP and keep it flowing and good things will happen.
I'll be sure to let you all know at what mileage my PMD quits on me. I'm thinking it will be quite some time.
On the extended harness; Just get a used harness and solder in some wire.

Electronics like to be cool. The PMD generates heat. Mounting above the manifold (that gives off much heat) does not help with cooling the PMD. Heat moves from hot to cold. If your PMD doesn't generate a lot of heat at idle, it will pick up heat from the manifold. The pump side provides liquid cooling.

PMD placement best to worst:
1. Outside of engine bay heat
2. LEAVE IT ON THE PUMP
3. over the manifold.

#3 brings failure much faster than option 1 and 2.
